Sonja Holly Short Bio
Sonja was born in Finland in November 4th, in the small town of Lohja. She had a happy childhood surrounded by trees and fresh air, spending her summers in a lake town in southern Finland.
As a child she would listen to Swedish Pop, rock, including Roxette, Ace of Base, and dream of being on stage. Dancing and singing around the house for her family and signing autographs for her dolls became a daily activity from age 5. At 15, Sonja took up singing lessons and realised her true calling in music.
In 2002 Sonja performed with a blues band near Helsinki, but found that she couldn’t always do as she pleased. Working with a band nurtured her musical talent, giving her the strength and confidence to follow her individuality and fly solo.
Influenced by No Doubt, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, Sonja's music began to take shape. Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain have been a huge influence on Sonja as a person and are her ultimate role models. Being able to relate to the same feelings and experiences as an artist in the limelight gave Sonja belief and confidence that she could do the same.
Currently, Sonja takes Jazz dance classes most days and feels “it is like a drug” for her. She also takes famous Speech Level Singing (SLS) classes weekly to train her voice; "I feel I will always keep evolving and I enjoy singing and learning even more technically difficult stuff. I'm such a perfectionist..nothing excites me more then writing a interesting song that rocks. I love writing songs, it keeps my mind constantly busy!"
Sonja’s personal style is as individual as her music. She will wear and do as she pleases and won’t give a flying codswallop what you think.
Continuing to evolve with her unique style of electro pop/ rock here in London, Sonja Holly is getting ready to get herself a fan base as strong as her passion.
