About Me

"When I listen to music I want to be drawn in; I want it to grab me and not let me go." says guitarist Max Cohen. "I want it to be tasteful, compositionally interesting and compelling. In short I want it all; I guess I'm very demanding. So when I write music, that's what I'm shooting for. I set the bar very high." Max usually hits the mark; this becomes breath-takingly evident when you listen to him. An accomplished fingerstyle guitar player, Max has been playing and writing for guitar for more than twenty years. His musicianship has drawn accolades from critics and fans alike. Compositionally, Max is always aiming for something to engage the listener - a melody with staying power, a clever twist, a poignant harmony. His exquisite attention to detail is what distinguishes him. Technically precise, Max is capable of "virtuoso speed" (according to Guitar Player Magazine), but he doesn't overplay. As one anonymous listener commented, "what I love about Max is that he can play a thousand notes a second, and he knows exactly when not to."

Influences: I think the biggest influences on my guitar playing are Alex DeGrassi, Michael Hedges, Pierre Bensusan and Ed Gerhard. I would also include Wayne Krantz, Pat Methany, Lyle Mays, David Gilmore, Steve Vai, Will Ackerman, James Taylor, The Beatles....I think I'll stop there. This list could go on and on.
