Mosquito

____________________________________________________________ It all began in the fruitful year of 2005. Kevin and Nico founded Mosquito (at that time not yet called Mosquito) in the summer of 2005. Back then, the band consisted solely out of a songwriter (Nico) and a guitar player (Kevin). It was that experience (beer, warm days, a cheap turned-to-max-amp and lyrical inspiration) that formed the inducement for Nico to pick up the drumsticks. ____________________________________________________________ __As time went by and Mosquito started getting more and more shape, Kevin and Nico started to realize they needed vocals. That is where Gerrit came in (spring 2006). In the mean while old school pall Philippe - a bass player - had joined the band adding some extra strenght to Kevins riffs. After a while Gerrit left the band, and Nico P. took care of the vocals. ____________________________________________________________ __With Nico P. dedicating himself to the vocals Mosquito played their first gig: the 21st of November 2006 they played a benefit concert at school. Over 400 people went to see Mosquito (the only band lined up for the concert (duration: half an hour)). Experiencing what they had always wanted to feel, Nico and Kevin knew this what they wanted to do! But hey, maybe it was the adrenaline speaking. ____________________________________________________________ __After Nico P. and Philippe left the band (in that order) Mosquito started experimenting with all different kinds of music and styles. The result was an evolution from the rock/stoner rock/hard rock with some NWBHM- and trash- influences to a far more experimental, instrumental and alternative kind of stonerrock. It was around that time Nick joined the band to do the vocals. He too left soon after. The joining of Maarten - bass player of Nico's former sideproject "Addicted to Cookies" - certainly added something to Mosquito's style. But Maarten also left the band after jamming only a few months and playing only two gigs. ____________________________________________________________ __With Maarten leaving the band, and both of Mosquito's founders entering college, jamsessions were delayed and cancelled more than ever. But after a few months of “time out” Kevin and Nico decided to pick up the old trail. Longing for an outlet and overflowing with inspiration Mosquito was more alive and decisive than ever before. Nothing better than the smell of beer and sweat when you're sitting in the driver seat, glancing at the amplifier producing the one riff you're waiting for the last few hours. ____________________________________________________________ __Mosquito decided not to do any more auditions and focus on getting the max out of there two instruments. And it paid off. Spring 2008 Mosquito released their first demo EP ‘Inside Jokes for Outsiders’. Soon after they played one local gig after the other, occasionally accompanied by a guest musician on stage (such as Wouter - vocals). The local tour climaxed at Botanique, Brussels. Just recently Mosquito reinvented itself once again, combining its previous sound with post rock, grunge and straightforward rock – influences. This new sound is canned in Mosquito’s second EP ‘The Other Side of the Table’. Myspace Contact Tables ..
