I have been playing music since the ‘80s. In 1987 roaming the streets in Melbourne with my friend I spotted a beginner’s drum kit in the window of a music shop. After checking my bank balance I decided on buying the kit, which I was scared to take home, fearing my parents disapproval. We took the kit to my friends apartment, where we began jamming. After almost getting my friend evicted, I took the kit to another mates place where we started jamming under the name of DOUBLE AGENT. Still self-taught and playing in a garage band I was very unhappy with my experience as a drummer, so I decided that after getting as far as I could by myself, it was time to get professional help. I took lessons in a music store’s studio, but didn’t feel that I was improving as fast as I could have. In the mean time I've upgraded my drum kit. One afternoon whilst browsing through the only Hungarian newspaper in Australia (Hungarian Life), I spotted an ad of an Hungarian drum teacher. It turned out to be István 'ToTo' Mareczky who has been playing drums for Hungary’s top Heavy Rock Band, P.Mobil and was considered to be one of the best drummers in the country.
Toto taught me to play drums, so that I would become a hard hitting solid rock drummer.
I've played in a number of bands in and around Melbourne's pubs, but one of them named LCD was the best I played in. It was a blues trio. We have released a song in the US that got Radio air play on quite a few stations.
But as we know life is unpredictable and unfortunately LCD ceased to exist as a band. We all stayed friends, met up in our old studio but stopped playing Live together.
I've moved to Queensland in '98.
I often joked that this state being QUEEN's land I should play in a band that had QUEEN somewhere in their name.
I have played in a number of bands in QLD as well, but none of them lasted more than a year or so.
One night I went to my local club to see a band that paid tribute to QUEEN. Although I liked the show I was becoming increasingly bitter, (probably beer had something to do with it)that it wasn't me behind the kit. After the show I was introduced to Johnny Blunt who portrays
Freddie Mercury so brilliantly. I told Johnny that if the present drummer ever left or got hit by a truck I will happily become the bands drummer.
Johnny thanked me for the offer and shook my hand.
About a year later somehow I got my chance. The band now called KillerQUEEN was looking for a drummer. I lined up an audition which went well. Obviously well enough to get the gig.
I played with the band for a while but played an electric kit. The band wasn't too keen on the sound the kit produced and asked me if I was prepared to get an acoustic kit or else they may need to look for another drummer. Although
it wasn't said out like that, I read between the lines. I needed to get a kit somehow very fast.
I had an idea, maybe I should try to get an endorsement.
At one of our gigs I got to play a ddrum drum kit and fell in love with it immediately and set out to get one.
I contacted ddrum direct to find out if it would be possible at all to get sponsored by the company. After checking me and the band out, I was called in for a meeting where we signed a contract.
I picked out the kit I would like and the rest as they say is history......
