I just moved back to Ocean Beach, my favorite community in the whole wide world, after having spent five months in Mexico meandering about Zihuatanejo (Ixtapa) and Mazatlan.
I initially went to Mexico to sail south to Costa Rica, then west to the Marquesas; instead I ended up taking the bus north! If you’d like to know all the bloody details, you’ll have to read my blog!
Since I have a habit of turning limons into margaritas, I decided to write a screenplay about it, tentatively called “Adventures in Mexicoâ€!
Unfortunately, I need cash flow to support myself while I’m writing, so I decided to quit putting off getting Bevalicious BBQ off the ground, so I’m starting that this weekend in Ocean Beach. Initially I’m going to be doing it out of my backyard, drawing people to my location by the good smells emanating from my BBQ! I’ll be offering ¼ BBQ chicken, a scoop of potato salad, and a scoop of fruit salad for $5. I think I’ll make sodas and water available for another buck. Eventually (once I have a store front, and I think I found one only a block away in a great location!) I will offer beer for $2 and local San Diego designer beer for $3. I’d like to offer local breweries the opportunity to showcase their beer at Bevalicious. And I’m going to do open mike night for musicians AND comedians.
I just found a ‘97 Mitsubishi Montero to purchase, so I’m really psyched about that! I sold my ‘95 to my youngest son for only $1,000 in February, before I left for Mexico, and I really miss it. This one has less than half the mileage as my other one, jump seats in the rear for taking extra kids to the beach or snow skiing, and the air conditioning works! It also has a CD changer in the back, which is heaven. My daughter will no longer be able to put in cRap while we are driving down the road!!!
I really miss Daniellie, and have already organized to take surfing lessons with her this summer in OB. I met the cutest kid on Dog Beach. I stopped to ask him the difference between one fin and three fins (on a surfboard), then mentioned I was going to take my daughter to surf camp in LaJolla later this summer; he said he had heard about the place, and that he was a surfing instructor. Then he introduced me to his student, who was resting on the beach. I got a good reference from the dude right then and there!
DanI wants to be a clothing designer when she “grows up,†and we’ve decided to name our company “DanI’s Designsâ€. Her jeans will be called “DeeDeesâ€. I’m really excited about the endeavor, and can’t wait to get started on it. I even found fabrics in Mexico that I plan to purchase to make the clothes with, and I’ll be setting up manufacturing in Mazatlan next winter.
I love being an entrepreneur, but I get frustrated with lack of funding! I have a feeling that that will no longer be an impediment in the not-so-distant future, and I’m really excited about it!
Getting ready to put a garden in where I live in OB; I’ll be planting tomatoes and strawberries, along with herbs and designer greens to use at Bevalicious. I want to control the abstinence from chemical pesticides in the food I offer at my BBQ joint. Eventually I’d like to raise my own free-range chickens.
It was a lot of fun to go to the OB Farmers’ Market Wednesday; I plan to purchase most of what I need for Bevalicious there and from the Co-op and Baron’s on West Point Loma. If anyone has any fresh produce available, let me know!
