About Me

Simply put, Seattle’s Natalie Quist is a young songwriter with an old voice. That isn’t to say she sounds like someone’s grandmother but rather that she shows wisdom, insight and pain beyond her scant twentysomething years. In the tradition of 50’s and 60’s folk music, her songs focus on stories and narratives. She uses her guitar to craft fragile yet warming melodies over which she weaves her take on such diverse subject matters as riding the rails, frontier exploration by women, monsters under the bed, holiday breakups, and songs about Seattle. While her songs will remind listeners of Harry Chapin and Cat Stevens, her vocals bring much more modern comparisons. Her voice is both powerful and delicate, depending on the demands of the material. She will instantly garner comparisons to Natalie Merchant, Beth Orton, and Sarah Harmer which aren’t totally unfounded. However, she does have a unique blend of light and husky delivery that are all her own. Together with her soft, finger-picked guitar the result is both inviting and familiar.*** My first album, The Maiden Voyage, is temporarily unavailable for purchase in stores, but I do bring copies to my performances.My latest album, It Rains Here Sometimes..., will be available July 16th.
