NOTE: a lot of people on myspace put sarcastic stuff in their profiles (age 99? clever!), or embellish a little...or a lot! But as hard as it might be to believe, everything in this profile is 100 percent true. (and in a cyber-world where people "pimp up" their reality, seeing the profile of someone so starkly genuine scares some people shitless!!!!) There's no way I can capsulize myself in a few lines, because I am NOT a single-dimensional person. But for the sake of presenting perhaps my most unique angle, I'll be telling about the "out there" side of me. Like I've always said, WHY SETTLE FOR NORMAL?
~~ THE RickJacks CREDO ~~
First of all, my name is NOT Rick Jacks, or anything similar to that. If I know you, I'll be glad to share my real name with you...if you don't know it already.
I am a big package. Meaning, there's a lot of diverse material inside of me, and if you dig deeply enough, you're bound to find SOMETHING you don't like!
I love public radio in general...some shows more than others.
I love Air America Radio (though i would NOT plop down money for XM or any other kind of satellite radio, apologies to my employers!!!). Some of their hosts are less interesting, but I believe that Randi Rhodes is nothing short of being a Goddess!!! I worship her, and will obey anything she tells me to do, even if the voices in my head tell me otherwise!
I love obscure oldies songs...and love to listen to Ten at Ten on KFOG.com (daily at one eastern time, of course) to get lots of dandy ones!
I much prefer listening to good music i haven't heard before rather than repeating the same songs (even good ones) over and over again. And over again. And again. Hell, I even prefer listening to bad music once than repeated good music (I've said it before...if i hear Hotel California one more time, i'll shit!!!!!!)
Speaking of bad music, I love Dr. Demento, and his protege' Weird Al. They can make me laugh like nothing else on the radio...although sometimes their stuff is unfunny and AWFUL as well!!!
What makes me laugh most on TV is Jay Leno's "Headlines" (though David Letterman makes me laugh more than Jay does generally). I also think Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert are MASTERS of satire, which I've loved ever since watching TW3 as a kid (1000 bonus points if you know what the hell THAT is!!!!)
I love all things natural, not conjured up by people to make a buck or to exert power or control over others.
I think organized religion is (ironically?) responsible for more evil in the world than any other force. And I believe "religious education", including Sunday School and VBS, is nothing short of brainwashing. As an adjunct to my rejection of the "unseen", I am not very big on hyped-up ceremonies or events of any kind, be they weddings, funerals, or birthdays (or the Super Bowl...it's just another football game, SOMETIMES better than others!). I did not attend my own high school graduation for this reason, so this is a long-held belief. Now, i HAVE been married three times. I chalk the first two up to naivety, along with my intention to either experience this bond so many around me were (first wife Linda), or to redefine the entire concept, based on adapted gender identities and "rules"(second wife Teresa). Now, my third marriage (to Sue) is the only one i would say was for good reasons, that was to get her and our children on my health insurance plan, and to maximize the year's tax refund for our family (thus the wedding date in late December).
Either two (or more) people are committed to each other or they are not. The only thing that changes in a wedding ceremony is they may leave there burdened by legal entanglements that could very well cause distress for both of them down the road! I think the statistics will bear me out on this one.
I believe in soap and cleanliness, but I LOVE women who are bold enough to see the folly of the cosmetics and advertising industries, and refuse to conform to the "standards" of beauty and fashion.
In particular, I am turned on politically and otherwise by women who refuse to shave their armpits and/or legs. Likewise, I see no sense in jewelry, in "precious" stones, or in altering ones natural skin, either temporarily with piercings or permanently with tattoos. To me, the latter represents the WORST kind of conformity! Tattoos USED to be a symbol of individuality, now they're just the opposite!
In this and other ways, I maintain many of the values of the "hippie generation". And though I choose not to do drugs (they take away my focus), I believe the "war on drugs" is nothing short of a conspiracy between the government and organized crime, with voters the unwitting chumps supporting it. If drugs were legalized, the criminal element would be eliminated, and taxes on the drugs could pay for cessation and treatment programs!
All my life, I've been a believer in the concept of free love and open relationships, as recently depicted in a new book called "The Ethical Slut" by Dossie Easton and Catherine A. Lizst. I have been "in the lifestyle" in one way or the other ever since college, have organized well over a hundred group sex "events" in the past decade (though fewer lately, due to happy commitments of parenthood). I also firmly believe in open relationships, to the point of polyamory, the observation that a person can not only relate sexually with more than one person, but on more intimate levels as well.
As for my OWN personal and nuclear family connections, the phrase "it's complicated" takes on a whole new meaning here. I learned the true meaning of love at a very late age, from a woman who completely revolutionized my entire existence in 2004. However, in 2007 (ironically at a group sex "event" that i helped organize) she met and ultimately fell in love with another person, and has spent most of her available time with him since then. In fact, they have plans to marry. Now, my concept of polyamory did not envision thoughts of feeling alone and abandoned as a result of this kind of freedom. However, she always assures me that her love for me has not diminished, just changed, and that she still plans on spending forever with me, down to our ashes mixing in the same urn when our hearts can no longer beat together. I truly love her unconditionally, and if I wanted to try and restrict her happiness by demanding she only focus on me and our children, that would not be truly loving her.
(as sung by Waylon)
Politically, I am as liberal as they come (big surprise there!!!) but I also think we on the left have been guilty of overreaching in the past, with unintended consequences. For example, I supported Ralph Nader in 2000, but i abhor the fact that he was SO vain as to NOT drop out of the race, and therefore caused George W. Bush to be elected, which has caused so much bad to happen over the past 7 years. For that matter, though I support Barack Obama as the BEST candidate, i would be more than happy to FULLY support Hillary Clinton in the 2008 race if she is nominated! For that matter, as of this writing in March of 2008, I think BOTH of them should stop attacking each other, and start attacking the TRUE enemy! Not John McCain as much (i've always liked him) as the Republicans who would come with him into power if he's elected.
These are some "bullet points" on some of my more unique attitudes, but they still don't cover ALL the angles of me. I'd love to hear your reaction to any or all of these points (whether i know you well, or not at all...and whether you agree a little or not at all!) Just send me a message here, or to [email protected] .
