Underground Alliance

About Me

The Underground Alliance was formed in August 2007 by Tony "Voltage", a 28 year old punk rocker from Los Angeles. He recruited his high school friend Martin to play guitar and Rooster Boy to play drums from a craigslist ad he had posted. With Tony on vocals and with lyrics he had written years earlier between 2000-2002, they created the original sound of the band. They practiced in the living room of Tony's house where they composed 12 punk rock anthems. The Underground Alliance practiced between August and November 2007 without a bass player. The songs composed were influenced by street, political, and hardcore sounds. They played their first gig, a back yard in East Los Angeles, on October 27, 2007, with local young bands such as Skeptical Youth and the Street Rats. They played without a bass player, but that was not going to stop them from rocking out to a bunch of local punk kids. They only played 5 songs, but that gig got the ball rolling! Finding a consistant bass player was difficult to find for the completion of the band. Those that tried out were flakes or not committed. The band went on to play an 11 song set at a gig Tony organized inside of his City Terrace house on November 21, 2007, playing again with no bass player. He organized this gig specifically so that the Underground Alliance could play on their own terms. He had local east side bands the Shag Rats, The Runts, I.T.V, and Skeptical Youth play in the living room, which was all boarded up. It was crowded, warm, and full of drunk and rowdy local East L.A. punk kids and curious ones. The gig was a HIT and put the Underground Alliance on the map with the current Eastside L.A. punk bands. The band finally found bass player Isidro and practiced between 1 - 3 times a week in December 2007. They taught him the songs and the band became complete, again, playing in the living room of Tony's house on December 22, 2007 with other local bands. Tony's passion for the music they were creating and his eagerness to play and expose the Underground Alliance to everyone persuaded him to put up his living room so that they could play. A rowdier and larger crowd came out this time, and on the third song of the Underground Alliance set, the Police came by and shut the "party" down due to rowdy kids creating ruckus on the street. Little did the pigs know there were bands playing inside. A few gigs later, especially the ones @ THE VOLTAGE HOUSE, a new line up has come on board to carry out the task of the Underground Alliance. Skinner on drums, Keith on bass, and Jimmy Riff on guitar, filling in on a part time basis from the Insurgents. Will they stick around???? This is the initial history of the Underground Alliance, with 13 songs in their set, they will be looking to record an album and play more live shows in 2009 and beyond for the next generation of punk rockers !
