Stop Gravity

Percussive Soul Music

About Me

Stop Gravity is more of an idea than a band. The large majority of music is written by myself (Peter Bertrand) and other musicians come in and make it come alive. Having said that, it is always about the music. Never about myself. I am only and instrument to guide the vibrations pouring out from inside. For this main reason, the billing tends to be under the name Stop Gravity even if it is a solo show.I have played drums for over thirty years now and have always sung as well. The guitar is fairly new to me (twelve years or so) mostly self taught, and as you might notice from the music, the influence of percussion takes on a big role in creating my style. I use the term "Percussive Soul" to describe the music. "Percussive" is obvious now and "Soul" because often my voice has been described as soulful. Currently, I am working on performing solo as well as with other musicians, and playing drums in another unit.It has been nearly seven years since I have gotten on stage and performed. About time to make this happen. This dream has never died, it only fell asleep for a while. It's awake again.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: myspace.com/stopgravity
Band Members: The incarnation of Stop Gravity at this moment is Randy Tougas / Fretless Bass, and Peter Bertrand / Guitar & Vocals.Stop Gravity "Dancing Pictures" era - Karen Bagini / Keyboard, Guitar & Vocals, Chris Severi / Bass Guitar, Peter Bertrand / Guitar, Percussion, Drums, Harmonica & Vocals - with special guest - Jeff Tisdell / Guitar solo on "Love is Real" & "Nursery Cryme."And of course, I would not be the musician I am if not for the creative partnership of the trio... "Pink Bunnies on a Stick"... Randy Tougas / Bass Guitar, Thomas Major / Guitar & Vocals, and myself - (Peter Bertrand) / Drums & Vocals. Look out for something in the not so distant future from "Lepus Arcticus." This is a completely different style of music than what you will hear from Stop Gravity. Stay tuned for more.
Influences: I tripped walking down an old cobblestone sidewalk once. There are so many things that influence my song writing. Always the inevitable one who is close to my heart. Life and all of it’s glorious beauty. Hearing other music, birds chirping, traffic passing by, strangers talking, conversations with friends or even strangers... I like to just let things come naturally. Guess that is why it has taken so long to get back out there and let the music do the talking for me.

Guitar woes... ;-(

Recently had the bridge on a guitar break. Oh the pain. Not for me but for my guitar. That's what happens when you play a guitar like a drum. Note to myself: it is an instrument that desires careful a...
