BECOMING GOD'S ANSWER For the past eight years, Ryan Baker has been a Student Pastor for Christ Chapel in CT. He has also been writing music and leading worship since being a student himself. Ryan has been a retreat speaker and worship leader to thousands of people for various different ministries.
Ryan digs deep into his own faith and life hoping that his music helps others in theirs. Ryan believes the most important thing is that people hear God and respond to what He is saying. “We must cut through the clutter and the noise of our lives to hear God who wants to speak into our often messy existence and offer something radically different. We take a lot of stuff in, but most important is that we take God in and allow Him to shape us into someone who we could never be without Him.â€
Songs like "Collide" speak about the struggle and reality of drawing a line down the middle of life and faith. “I find in my ministry to students, many see that faith is a piece or only a component of their life. We sometimes identify Jesus as being the ‘missing piece’, but I never recall reading that Jesus asked to be a piece of someone’s life. Rather, I read Jesus demanding that He BE our lives. We will never experience the life that God has for us if we treat Him like a piece of clothing that we wear every so often. “
In the song with the eyebrow-raising title "Dirty Jesus", Ryan sings about an experience he had with a drunk, homeless man. “Jesus left heaven and got dirty to reach and love the dirty, you know, people like me. Jesus asks us to love people, not just the easy-to-love people, but the dirty people as well. Jesus said, ’What you have done to the least of these, you have done it unto Me.’ If we take that literally, maybe we would see and treat people differently.â€
Ryan lets you into his family struggle with Alzheimer’s disease with "It’s Me". The song reflects memories of the pain his mother went through dealing with her mom's struggle with the disease. Now, his mom is showing signs of it and wishes to say a few things before it is too late.
These songs and others let you in on Ryan’s faith journey. He is not afraid of sharing his struggles and expressing where he is in the story and what he is learning. He hopes his music is a catalyst to help others to do the same.
