Movies:
I don't see a lot of movies. That being said ... the Lord of the Rings movies. Serenity. The Committments. The Harry Potter films. Most of the Star Wars and Star Trek movies -- except the ones that were awful! Willow, and The Princess Bride, and The Lion in Winter.
Television:
West Wing. And then there's West Wing. Or possibly West Wing. And of course Firefly, but that went away :-( And probably Aaron's Sorkin's new series that starts in the fall -- I'll watch anything he writes, because nobody does it smarter. Back in the day, Babylon 5 was a favorite, and all the Star Trek series, to greater and lesser degrees. Loved Sports Night (Aaron Sorkin IS a genius).
Books:
It's a long list! Lots of sci-fi, lately focusing on cyberpunk, and also a fair bit of fantasy. I'm a huge Tolkien fan of decades standing, I love the Harry Potter books, and I love anything by Terry Pratchett. And Douglas Adams. I'm crazy about Neil Gaiman's stuff -- he needs to write a LOT more. And anything by Sherri S Tepper. I've been reading and enjoying a lot of gender bending stuff like Nicola Griffith's work and Melissa Scott's stuff recently. Also everything I can find by Robert J. Sawyer, and Connie Willis. I'm a long-time fan of Robert Silverberg. And I'm a diehard fan of Robert Heinlein -- I want to hang out with all of his characters! I like Spider Robinson's character's a lot, too.Among fantasy, I tend mostly to the urban fantasists -- Charles de Lint is a favorite. Also historical fantasists with a strong historical element, like Guy Gavriel Kay.Outside of sci-fi, I like a lot of thrillers -- current fav is Dan Brown -- and detective novels. Also good Victorian erotica. And whimsical oddities, like Tom Robbins -- into what genre does he fit, I wonder? I like old Anne Rice (and all of her fabulous erotica) but love her less since she's gotten so self-indulgent with her prose. In non-fiction, I occasionally pick up something in the world of popular science, like Steven Hawking's books. And I regularly hunt down things in popular history, especially Greek, Roman, and medieval.
