About Me
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......
This is my dj space - as opposed to my music space, which isn't really a music space. I'd rather be known just as Tone Broker without the DJ attachment at the start, but them's the breaks. Apparently. Just a few tracks here for now, as you can see. My mid-tempo funk trip with Jamie Lidell chopped and dropped, a down tempo neo-soul demo with me singing, and "The Liquid Ate Her" - a break I made on my 505 back in '98. There's plenty more in the works, and hopefully now that our little boy, Naiah, is not quite as all consuming as he was at first, I can really get busy with my tunes. I've been playing live music for 20 years now - making electronic music (on and off) for 11 years - and DJ'ing for 9 years this year. As a DJ, I don't really follow any rules as such. I believe that I've developed Musical Attention Deficit Disorder, which doesn't allow me to adhere to, play or worship just one line of music. The family tree is far to large for that. I am more into music than style - which kinda makes it hard to put in me in a little box with a genre attached to it. I believe there are only two types of music - good music, and bad music. And as individuals it's up to us (and only us) to decide what is the good, and what is the bad. Just like the old saying - "One person's trash is another person's treasure." I suppose that if I really had to put my(dj)self in a musical category for whatever purpose it serves, then I'd be kinda content to be known as a House or Breaks DJ - Everything musical (dance-wise) can fit under these two genres in my opinion and I find it allows me more freedom to play what I feel at showtime. If I'm coming to play in your house (bar, club, party, festival, fashion parade, wedding, etc) then it's likely that I'm gonna play things that will sound good there. That makes me a house DJ, as I'm playing music for the house. And chances are that the things I'll play for the dance-floor will either have a constant pulse or a broken beat structure. Enter the Breaks. So in theory that could literally mean everything and anything. Many would say that this is my problem. I believe it is a virtue, and that's how I like it. If you want to read my musical history you can check it out at www.myspace.com/tonebroker - there's a really nice, long and over-indulgent explaination there. Or if you wanna read my DJ Bio to see who I've played with and all that "blow your own horn type of jazz" - it's posted as a blog above. I'm based in France and am happy to travel. If you wanna book me, you can message me here and I will give you my email address, to organise mixes, pics, press, promo and other details. I should just shut-up now, and so I will stop here.......!
