Andyrew's musical career(!) began in 1985, when he was asked to replace the terminally ill bassist of a band aptly named 'Fatal Practice'. This outfit played origainal material with 'nefarious pretensions'. These early years saw various collaborations, including 'Fags In Spain', 'The Crypts of Lieberkuhn' and 'The Happy Pills'. One charity concert at the local school included Andyrew in three bands, performing a different role in each. In a variation of pulling the plug, the lights were turned on and the chairs packed away to the drone of 'The Velvet Underpants'.
In 1990 he managed to record a few of his own songs for 'Crackle, Snap and Pop', acclaimed by the local rag as being, 'a fine example of East Anglian weirdness'. The next few years were relatively quiet, although Andyrew did carry on recording, even having a song used in a West End show. Then, in 1997, he joined a church based band which originally played worship songs to captive audiences (such as the women of Highpoint!) They changed their name to 'Caim' and moved into cover versions before attempting their own numbers, mainly penned by Andyrew. Around the same time that this band formed, he was also involved in a threepiece called 'Jumplikeazulu', which never gigged due to musical differences.
He has since left 'Caim' and in 2003 decided to start playing guitar in the duo '2 Rabbits'. This pretend punk comedy act received a rapturous review at the start of 2004 and were dubbed 'probably the maddest band in Colchester'. They have three albums to date and a long list of gigs to their credit.
Last year Andyrew played the Wivenhoe May Festival as one half of 'Done Well', and he quietly released a Christian EP, 'Invisible Friend'.
He can be found at the bar more often than in a pew!
