His grandad (Goh Soon Tioe) was a leader of a national orchestra, his dad who once played for Sammy Davis Jr. was the leader of the national military band and could play 20+ instruments (Tonni Wei), his mum was a renowned music critic (Patricia Goh), and his great grandma was still gving piano lessons at the age of 90!!! Not to mention the other talent spanning 3-4 generations stemming from both sides of his parents.
As a kid growing up with the vast amount of musical heritage, Jordan certainly felt the pressure of becoming more than just another musician. Like any other 5 year old kid, he started piano lessons with a variety of teachers and music schools. His musical input was supplemented with playing bass and drums at church when he was 8 and piano in church and school chapel services when he was 13. He also learnt and played bassoon in the Singapore Youth Training Orchestra and Junior Guildhall School of Music Orchestra at from age 14-19.
However, his switch from concentrating totally on 'classical' music to more mainstream pop and finally into jazz came when he got his break in the Singapore Jazz music scene while doing his 2 and a half year army stint. After playing around the circuit for less than a year, he left for UK to pursue an honours degree in Jazz at Middlesex University. He has graduated with a 1st class BA Jazz (Hons) degree and has recently completed the MA Jazz degree at the same faculty. He now resides in Singapore and is starting is career as a music educator and performer.
Throughout his life, God has blessed Jordan with perfect pitch and an ability to play several instruments competently. Jordan Wei has worked with some of the top musicians in Singapore and the UK. Some of which include Alan Patrick of "The Drifters", Femi Temowo from Soweto Kinch's band, The Andy Dickens Band, Marina Xavier, 4 Kornerz, Mario Serio, Eddie Jensen, Tan Boon Gee, Teo Boon Chye and others... His teachers include Malcolm Edmondstone, Nikki Iles, Rob Townsend, Chris Batchelor, Stuart Hall, Peter Fribbins, Francois Evans, David Peacock, Jeffery Wilson, Malcolm Miles, Zhang Jin Min, Rita Sze, Peter Saberton, Gareth Williams, etc...
Although Jordan Wei is better known for his piano playing, Jordan's compositions and arrangements are gaining recognition by top UK Jazz artistes such as Malcolm Edmondstone, Nikki Iles, Stuart Hall, Chris Batchelor, etc...
Following the success of "Mental Block Harmony", he hopes to expand his band even more and is looking for musicians back in Singapore to start a big band of his own.
Jordan wishes to thank his Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ for everything God has done in his life. And till the world hears and accepts the good news that Jesus Christ died for their sins to save them from eternal burning, Jordan's wish is that God uses him to touch and bless the hearts of those around him through his music... “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" - Romans 6:23
