I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I was raised in southeastern Ohio, which is accurately referred to as Appalachian Ohio. I went to college in Tennessee, where the culture was pretty much the same as what I'd grown up with, despite the refusal of people in both places to believe that. I backed into librarianship as a career, and it's worked out quite well for me. Since the summer of 1985 I've lived in Chicago, having figured out that cities aren't the evil places I'd always been told they were. My wife Cheryl and I celebrated our 14th anniversary in May. We go to LaSalle Street Church, which is a somewhat unusual church in that our doctrinal stances are fairly mainstream among evangelicals (whatever that means now, exactly) but we have a strong emphasis on ministry in our community. We have started, over the years, a legal aid clinic for people who can't afford lawyers, a counseling center, a day care center, an alternative high school, a senior center, and a weekly meal program. Our worship services emphasize music and the arts. We are a non-demoninational church, so our congregation is made up of people from all kinds of backgrounds -- Methodists, Baptists, Catholics, Greek Orthodox, Calvinists, what have you.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Barack Obama, Bruce Cockburn, Charlie Rose, Bill Moyers, Desmond Tutu, Itzhak Perlman, Anne Tyler, Over the Rhine, the list goes on.

My life lately

The last month has been pretty busy, for various reasons. Thus, no blog entries during that time. One big reason for that is that I've become more active on MySpace's rival, Facebook. That's mostly be...

I just updated my status to say I'm home and uncomfortable. Just so nobody will jump to any wrong conclusions, let me say I'm physically uncomfortable, while not actually sick or anything. I've had a ...

Keeping my hand in

Songwriting

Okay, so, like I said, I always have mixed feelings about taking a songwriting class, because on the one hand I feel pressure to get something done each week, but on the other hand, I usually DO get s...

Digital Photos

Had a day off today, so I used it to finish figuring out how to burn CDs with our new computer. I shot about 300 pictures on our recent two-week vacation to Arizona and Utah. (Shot most of them at the...
