About Me

Welcome to the insanely boring rant that is my profile. Here you shall read all that is chris (or just the lesser boring points of it that I have chosen to write about). I currently live in Oklahoma (where the wild hicks roam). I currently am attending the local college to become certified as a radiology tech, this way I will be able to have a job when I go to university that does not involve the phrase "Do you want fries with that". At university, I plan on double majoring in biology and philosophy and then taking graduate coarses, working towards a doctorate in philosophy of science (so I will be in school for a long time, one of the 'benefits' of having no life).
Now that I have gone over the less interesting parts of my existence, I can now get on to the real rant (joy).
As it says here in the profile, I am an atheist. No, this does not mean I am immoral or an going to eat your babies (I'm a vegitarian after all, so unless you have some sort of freaky tofu baby, your offspring are safe). My reason for this is that I see no data to support the concept of a deity, it is as simple as that. True there is no evidence that one does not exist, however there is also no evidence that there are no invisible pink unicorns. Instead of dwelling on the supernatural, I look towards that natural.
With my naturalistic view point, I see more then enough beauty. The idea that anyone can look at the universe we live in and need to insert a deity to make them happy is something I find very sad. Sure things might not always go the way we wish, but if it did, things would get very boring, very fast.
Another one of my main interests is music. Now when I say that, I do not mean that I simply enjoy music, it is much more then that (the world obsessive comes to mind). I cannot count the hours I have spent searching for new music venues (of course if I were to try and count it, I would probably get bored very, very quickly). I would much rather simply be listening to music then watching television, as television tends to bore me (I know its time to stop when I can feel my neurons starting to liquefy). There is something to be said when you find music that moves you, where you can just close your eyes and let your mind visualize the sounds and rythms. Letting your mind float off to the sound is one of the most enjoyable and overlooked things a person can do.
I also spend a lot of time simply lost in thought, as those around me will attest (I have had many a food stuff lobed at me due to this). Usually its about some scientific concept, or something equally dorky. Of course when I have a eureka moment during this I just have to share it with those around me (this usually leads to a lot of smiling and nodding by those around me).
I also must admit that I have a terrible addiction to webcomics. I was never really a fan of comic books when I was younger, but as soon as I discovered the internet variety I was hooked like a celebrity discovering cocaine for the first time. They are the perfect blend, some are hilarious, while others have amazingly beautiful worlds that suck you in. So unless they develop a kind of digital methadone, I doubt this addiction will cease.
Anyway, I am sure that I have gone on long enough to drive off even the most persistent (or bored) persons out there, so I shall stop for everyones sake. If anyone does wish to speak with this rather...unique individual, do not hesitate to message me. I am open to any form of conversation, as long as they are not from those trying to convert me or trying to get me to engage in any lewd act (for those of you that need simple words, no cyber or porn, save it for those without dignity). My Interests

Reading, designing and making my own clothing, learning (yes, I'm a dork), religions (I am fascinated by them and their workings even though I am agnostic), listening to music nearly constantly (I love it yet I can't play an instrument, I'm lacking that talent thing), philosophy, debating, a chronic addiction to webcomics, and probably other things that I haven't listed.

I'd like to meet:

People I can have meaningful conversations with that are deeper then a puddle. I'm generally not picky about who I talk with though.

Music:

I try and be open and give everything a chance, be it darkwave, EBM, synth, industrial, trance, D&B, jazz, punk, opera, ska, prog-rock, or anything else. Music is there, not to make you look better, or fit in, but as something to be loved for the artistry behind it, no matter where or when it may have come from. You may dislike a certain genre, but you may still find some music within it that you will absolutely love.

Movies:

Ghost In The Shell (both of them), Serenity, Appleseed (remake), The Dark Crystal, The Abyss, Phantom Of The Opera, Monte Python & The Holy Grail, and a few others that I can't think of at the moment

Television:

I don't really watch much television, but I will watch Invader Zim, The Daily Show, Mythbusters, and just about anything on the Science Channel.

Books:

My favorite authors include Michael Crichton, Douglas Adams, Orson Scott Card, and Stephen Baxter.

Heroes:

I don't quite have so much heroes then I have people I admire for what they have done. Jacques Cousteau (I wanted to be a marine biologist for the longest time, until I found out that I would probably only get a job either for the government or a fishery), Albert Einstein, Mohandas Gandhi, Max Planck, Werner Heisenberg, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Stephen Hawkings, P.Z. Myers and quite a few others.

Why not to save oneself for marriage

I have heard many times that one should save oneself for marriage. That keeping your virginity for your spouse is a great gift (this is more often aimed at women, however I will not go into that...

Equality for all means equality for all

I wanted to write about this earlier this week, but I was simply too pissed to do so.  I don't get angry easily, but this time I was quite literally shaking with rage.  Why was I overflowing...

Give science its words back.

Please, let science have its words back or at least start using the words right.  There are so many times when I hear a person use a word so erroneously it makes me cringe.  By using them, y...

You can be wrong!

I generally classify myself as a liberal.  It seems many of the conservative antics prove that they are simply nuts.  However, being liberal does not mean I believe every liberal concept is ...

another nameless rant on religion pt. II

Just what every oversized rant needs, a sequel.  This one will be, shall we say, more aggressive.  But first, opening quotes from people more interesting then me. "For me, it is far better ...

humanizing my writing

Who says atheists and agnostics are not happy?

I seem to have frequently come across the belief that agnostics, and to a higher degree, atheists are not happy people.  In fact, many seem to hold onto the belief that they are misserable, immor...
