Collapse was formed in August of 2001, from the ruins of former local (Pictou County, NS) bands Spur, Dusthead and Burden. Before it's inception, Guitarist Jason Mackenzie (formerly of Spur) and Vocalist / Guitarist Shane Forsyth (formerly of Dusthead) spent most of the waking hours jamming and searching for competent band members to complete the circle. It wasn't long before they recruited former Spur drummer Chad Mitchell to take over the percussive elements of Collapse. With the drummer intact, they acquired former Burden bassist Howie Young to add the low end of musical spectrum.
In March of 2003, Drummer Chad Mitchell decided to leave the province to pursue other goals leaving Shane to take over percussion. The band then focused on combining their influences and began writing and jamming original material. Former Spur/Inner Thought throat tenderizer Dennis Balesdent then joins the band as a second vocalist. Only after a few months, Collapse is again reduced to a 3 piece and decides to recruit another former member of Burden, Troy Aikens as second guitarist. In early 2005, they began to finish writing and recording their debut album Destroying By Design to be released into this wretched and corrupt society. Just after making a deal with GWN Records, Sean Wyszynski (Ex- Gruesome Feast) was added to the band to take over lead vocals.
Destroying By Design was released by GWN Records in February 2006. They followed up with a small tour in April with friends Paroxysm stretching from Montreal to their hometown, NG. Not long after the tour, Collapse recorded a 3 song follow up to Destroying entitled Mechanisms of Oppression. After some delay, the EP was released in June of 08; displaying their most mature and brutal material yet.
