Monica Yngvesson is a jazz vocalist and a native of northern Sweden. She is situated in Stockholm since summer 2005 after having spent seven years in the United States.Monica is currently a member of the voice faculty at the private music high school Rytmus in Stockholm, and she teaches voice privately at her studio downtown Stockholm. She performs in various churches for concerts and masses, and also for private events. She is frequently performing with renowned singer songwriter Ingmar Johansson. Ingmar who has released numerous records for the last three decades has been inspired by Monica’s voice and decided to include her in the next album which is to be recorded in April this year and released on Naxos. Monica had one of her songs recorded for “Allhelgona Hymnsâ€, an album with various Swedish artists such as Irma Schultz-Keller, Stefan Sundström, Tomas Andersson Wij, and Sara Isaksson.In 1998, Monica’s musical interests took her to Boston to study jazz performance at Berklee College of Music. Her unique tone and improvisational style have made her a much sought-after vocalist, notably with the Vardan Ovsepian Quartet on their Fresh Sound recordings. Her voice serves to enhance the instrumental range of a group in the role of a string or woodwind. She has inspired composers, such as Vardan Ovsepian, Kaori Tanioka, and Andrew Kim, to write especially for her. As a performer in the US, Monica has appeared at many venues in the Northeast, including jazz clubs such as The Regattabar in Cambridge, MA, and in concerts at the Center for Cultural Exchange in Portland, ME, and the Natick Center for the Arts, MA, among others. Monica was a member of the faculty at The Musical Suite in Newburyport, MA, a private music school, where she taught classes in performance and improvisation 2002-2005. In March 2004 she was invited as a special guest artist to give master classes and a concert at Towson University in Maryland.While keeping jazz at the heart of her style, Monica has explored pop, folk and classical music. She has collaborated in concerts, radio shows and recording productions with Mick Goodrick, George Garzone and Vardan Ovsepian to name a few.
