Kikiwest are Marc Jameson and Jacqueline Gallier. They formed in 1997 and were quickly signed to London/FFRR Records.The sounds are a rhythmic core of downtempo drum&bass, hiphop and syncopated breaks, combined with samples from 60s-70s vinyl, standup bass, fuzz guitars, looped textures, flutes, psychedelic randomness. Kikiwest are all about the balance between groove and melody, using 'pop' elements in a non-pop way, in the same way that bands like Portishead, Breakbeat Era, and U.N.K.L.E. have.Kikiwest are originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. Marc Jameson started out as a drummer in punk bands in the early 90s and got into the darker electronic sounds coming from labels like Netwerk and Waxtrax. He later discovered 'hardcore' and jungle around 95, and started producing breakbeat-oriented music in 96. He has a few releases out under various old projects.Jaq Gallier started out making various guest vocalist appearances between 1992-94 in bay area bands and recording projects, including Marc's last band Diatribe, which is how they met.
