The Statics humble beginnings stem from Gerard Pidoto - Vox/Guitar (ex Tall Poppies) and Dave Noordhoff - Drums, sweating it out in a dank, dark rehearsal room in mid 2007.
Drawing inspiration from bands such as Betchadupa, Gyroscope, Osker and Midnight Oil, they set out to write a diverse collection of songs and record an album before being caught up in the whirlwind of this often fickle and unforgiving music scene.
After recruiting Pat McKenna - Bass (Pat & Brendan) and Michael Cooper - Guitar (Celadore), The Statics lineup was complete, as they set about refining their craft before hitting the studio to record their debut album.
The result is the 2008 Self Titled debut album, recorded at Sing Sing and Mainstage Recording Studios in Melbourne, Australia.
The first single lifted from the album is a small taste of things to come from this Melbourne quartet. "Any of This"... An obvious choice for the first single, "I remember when Gerard bought it into rehearsal for the first time, it was spinning in my head for days." says Noordhoff - Drums.
A back to basics attitude makes the band a fresh face in an overpopulated Melbourne music scene, which can be heard in album highlights "What You Want" and "Tie Me Down"... Not to be overshadowed, the band effortlessly writes songs with attitude and grit - see "A Victory for the Vicarious".
It's this mix of songs that attracted Sydney based Indie Label - Candy Pants Records, who signed on to release the debut album through Green Media.
With a tenacious outlook, a swag of great songs and album number one in the bag, The Statics are certainly a band to watch in 2008.
