Alessandra Verney is a singer and actress who lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She's about to record her first solo album including her own compositions and also new composers. -----BRIEF RELEASE ALESSANDRA VERNEYSinger and actress, born in Santa Maria (Rio Grande do Sul, a brazilian province in the South of the country), she began her career singing MPB (Brazilian Pop Music), jazz and blues.In 1994, still in Porto Alegre (capital of the province), she received the award “Premios Açorianos”, in the category Breakthrough Artist.She moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1996, aiming at developing her studies and enriching her work experience. Her debut in musical theatre was in “O Abre Alas”, written and directed by the acclaimed duo Charles Moeller and Claudio Botelho, whom she also worked with in “Cole Porter – Ele Nunca Disse que me Amava” (2000), “Tudo é Jazz!” (2004) and “Cristal Bacharach” (2004).In 2006, she had the opportunity of singing Chico Buarque’s masterpieces in “Ópera do Malandro – Em Concerto”. Yet another famous Brazilian director she worked with was Jorge Fernando, in the musical comedy “Aqui se faz, aqui se paga” (2002).Her work on TV includes “Chiquinha Gonzaga” (1999) and the soaps “Laços de Família” (2000) and “América” (2005). In the big screen she starred in Hugo Carvana’s “Apolônio Brasil – Campeao da Alegria” (2003), in the leading role as the crooner Tania.Parallel to her work on TV and cinema she also performed in the concert “Movie Stars” (2005).She also has starred the musical “Império”, directed by yet another Brazilian heavyweight director, Miguel Falabella.
