MUSIC BIOGRAPHY OF HEATHER GIN
Heather began studying the piano from home at the age of four. When she was five, she began taking private lessons through the Oregon Music Teachers Association (OMTA). Each year she was required to pass the OMTA syllabus exam to advance to each level. Heather successfully passed all 10 levels of the OMTA syllabus exams at the age of 15 and continued private lessons until she was 18.
During her studies, Heather participated in several concerts, recitals, festivals, and charity events. Some of the annual events she attended in Portland, Oregon include the Ensemble Festival, Romantic Festival, Bach Festival, OMTA State Competitions, and Classical Festivals.
Heather was passionately involved with music ministries at her church and played the piano and guitar for her youth group. She was a self-taught guitarist and was the youth group praise leader throughout high school. When she was 15, her piano teacher referred her to a local church that hired her as the pianist. The church was aired live on the radio every Sunday where Heather’s music was broadcasted across town.
As a young professional, Heather was requested to play at weddings for her church, family, and friends. She also began teaching piano and especially enjoyed teaching young children who learned quickly and were able to appreciate the gift of piano. When she realized the success she had with her students, she fell in love with teaching music and continued sharing her passion with others.
Heather attended the University of Washington and graduated with a BA in Sociology and Music. During college, she was the pianist of Korean Canaan United Methodist church and was later hired as the organ/piano accompanist of Rosehill Presbyterian Church.
Today, Heather continues to play for Rosehill. She is also a recording artist/songwriter and owner of Hkeys Music.
