There’s nothing like an untamed do-it-yourself rock band with a merciless intention to change the world like the Los Angeles bred quartet, Bowen.
Although they attended the same school, the members of Bowen fronted separate rock bands—James Bowen and Will Havens in “Family” and the Havner brothers, Jason and Chris in “As Angels Fall”.
During a Hollywood gig years later at the world famous Key Club, rhythm guitarist Jason Havner and lead guitarist James Bowen met up to discuss possible business ventures in the booking arena. The two avidly discussed musical tastes and aspirations over beers in an ally adjacent to The Key Club, which would later become known as “The Spot”. Talks eventually led to discussion of possibly starting a band with former members drummer Chris Havner, and bassist Will Havens. After formally assembling in the summer of 2008 the group Bowen performed at over a dozen venues and composed several singles including the vicious alcoholic anthem “Steel Reserve” referencing drug abuse and rape, to other songs such as “Vagrant on Velvet” a biographical account of sleeping on friends couches and living the life of a derelict.
With a steadfast mission to compose tasteful melody and stir controversy, Bowen continually hits the scene with relentless attitude and ambition. Its not often you’ll run across a band as talented and thirsty as these guys—so for those of you who didn’t know, this is Bowen, and they’re here to stay.
