I recently began taking the steps to pursue a plus-size modeling career. My goal is to show Harlem, NYC, USA, the world, however big it turns out two things.
First, that natural hair IS beautiful. Every image of black beauty in our society is of women with straight hair. I'm not knocking those women. They are indeed beautiful... but I want my students and future children to know and believe that their beauty is not contained in a relaxer kit. I want the "natural" beauties of the world to unite and help to assasinate the term "good hair". I let my hair grow out of my head the way I was born and I'm labeled "natural, earthy, rebellious" I use a harsh chemical that burns my scalp to the point of scabs and that's considered "normal". Something is wrong with this picture.
I'm about to flip it!!
Second, although it's already happening, is that beauty comes in all sizes and shapes. What I want to show is that being thick or plus sized doesn't mean showing off huge T & A. I will deliver sexy without the sleaze. I am a classy woman and that is the image I will uphold.
