Shalom Brasil

About Me

Shalom is a Hebrew word meaning "hello", "goodbye" and "peace". Shalom Brasil is a band from the northeast of Brazil that plays traditional Jewish melodies with rural Brazilian rhythms and a propensity for improvisation. The Jewish presence in the western hemisphere began in the northeast of Brazil in the 16th century. It is the home of the first Jewish community and synagogue of the Americas. The northeast of Brazil is also one of the most culturally richest areas on the planet because of the mixture of African, Indigenous, and European cultures which converged there 500 years ago. Hence many new musical styles were born. These include frevo, maracatu, ciranda, samba, and forro among others. Shalom Brasil unites these styles with the traditional melodies of Judaism to create an innovative and vital sound.
Shalom é uma palavra em hebraico que significa "oi", "tchau" e "paz". Shalom Brasil é uma banda de Olinda que mistura melodias judaicas com os ritmos e a linguagem musical do nordeste brasileiro.
