Chautauqua

Chautauqua intially formed at Amherst College in late '99 with Josh and Rick playing bass and Phil playing drums. Their first performance took place at an open mic night that December under the name Sins Against Man. Then Rick took off for a semester abroad. Rick got back in June and jammed with Josh and Phil a bit that summer, but things really took off in September when they met Rachel, a drummer doing an exchange year at Amherst College from Bowdoin College. As Rachel slowly took over drumming duties, Phil switched to guitar, adding an extra layer to the music. On September 9th, 2000, the band played its first show as Chautauqua, with the full line-up, and guest-performers (their friends) adding poetry to the mix.In January of 2001, the band got into a makeshift studio and recorded their one and only album, "Interrobang." They finished the final mixing and burned CDs for a release party that spring...The band are currently on indefinite hiatus or just broken up, depending on who you ask. Of course, it doesn't matter much. They're currently scattered to the wind. Josh lives in Brooklyn, NY. He performs as himself and with the band Krylls . Phil lives in Nashville, TN and is working on his solo career / getting a gig at the Grand Ol' Opry. Rachel lives in Newton, MA and generally finds some way to rock. And Rick bores the rest by being happily married in Eugene, OR.
