The Pembertons

About Me

Whisky, three chords and a helluva good time are the trademarks of Manhattan band The Pembertons. Blue-collar, three-chord, honky-tonk, alt-country rock. If there weren't enough hyphens in that description of The Pembertons' music, let me add one more: It's kick-ass. You may recognize a few of the band members from other memorable Manhattan bands like The Egomaniacs, Ruskabank, El Fontain, Puke Weasel/Spine/Scully, Jonathan and others. by Matt Bechtold RockKansas writer

Sounds Like: Published on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 Jessica Grant Kansas State CollegianThe size of the city of Manhattan means that national recognition for a local music scene can be practically impossible to come by, but this has not stopped local Manhattan bands The Pembertons, Three Rivers Kennedy, and Clap from assembling three equally notable acts. Manhattan music scene veterans The Pembertons have helped guide newer musicians to the scene with their experienced nature.“We drink, we fish, we listen to Johnny Cash and Motorhead,” Pembertons guitarist John Evans said. The Pembertons are a quartet consisting of Dave Spiker on drums and vocals, Dave Boomer on bass, John Evans on guitar and vocals, and Bro Pemberton on guitar and vocals. The Pembertons have put out one extended-play album called “Starting the Fire”, which is out of print. However, a full-link album titled “Burn” is available at their shows or at Reverb Records, located inside Game Guy on north Manhattan Ave.For “Burn,” the band traveled to Chicago to record with longtime friend Andy Bosnak at Engine Studios. To some, this might seem like a long venture to record an album, but Spiker said, “We wanted a change of scenery and a vacation. We also wanted our album to not sound like anything else in Manhattan.” The Pembertons will perform Feb. 14 at Auntie Mae’s Parlor with Mankato and Pendergass. http://classstation.spub.ksu.edu/collegian/article.php?a=178
