A few years back I was frustrated with the poetry scene and certain capitalists in particular who would go so far as to blatantly disrepect poets on the mic (unless they were part of their "clique") so I sent a mass email to every poet I knew called "the spirituality of poetry" it was the first time I had publicly mentioned the name I gave myself almost 15 years ago: Niccolea. I explained that it was based on the name my father would have given me: Nicole, but since Nicole is merely a feminine version of Nicholas which at it's root in the acient greek language means loosely "Leader" in a human sense, I changed it to Niccole-YAH to emphasize that if I was to even remotely think about being a leader I wanted it to be lead by God. So... if you see that name, then you know it is me and you know what it means.
I am just one woman who happens to think in a way that seems normal to me but as I meet and interact with more and more people... I find that only other artists can even come close to comprehending the circular motion that is my train of thought.
with that in mind... understand that my photos are born of too much free time alone and my poems and songs are born of the extreme emotions of my life whereas my paintings are a mixture of all of the above.
I will be doing a body of small books, the group of which will be called: "The Collected Works of Niccolea M. Nance (poetry from circa 1996 to present)"
I call it the "collected" works as opposed to the "complete" works because I threw out my elementary school poetry when I was a freshman in high school and most of my high school poetry came up missing when some of my belongings were stolen. I have only a scant few of the poems I wrote prior to 1996 and am missing some poems from 1998-1999 (since they were about my ex fiance, I suspect the guy I dated after him found them and destroyed them :-/)
Even if I gathered together all the poetry I could find in my home, it would never be a truly complete collection of my life's poetry. I will post when the works are printed and ready for distribution
