http://www.GraffitiGen.com/ - Graffiti - Graffiti Creator - MySpace LayoutsUniversoul started Dj'ing in 1986. His first gig was at Lando's in Cd. Acuna, Mex. He started out his career by playing alot of top 40, country, rock and pop. That quickly changed when he started to get bigger club influences from San Antonio and Austin(6th St). Soon he was playing more new wave, industrial, new beat and underground. Groups like Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Depeche Mode, New Order, Erasure, Ministry, Cetu Javu, The Cure, Skinny Puppy, Celebrate the Nun, Pet Shop Boys, A Split Second etc. Universoul maintained his residency in Mexico til 1990. He also did radio from 1989-1990 at the southwest major market station Power 96. During his time at the station he did the 12am-6am spot Tue-Fri. On Saturday Universoul along with J.C. Crisp started Club 96, an all mix show playing the hottest music and mixes of the time and was the most listened to show on the radio. Also on Sundays he started the Sunday Nite Dedication Party which was also a big hit. This was all interesting and challenging but his passion and love was still in the club scene. In mid 1990 he started a new residency in his hometown of Del Rio, Texas at the Back Door. By this time he was also doing guest spots in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Lubbock. His thirst for electronic music was growing. In late 91' he opened for The Prodigy and the Orb in Lubbock. Universoul kept his residency at the Back Door till June of 1994 when he decided to move to Des Moines, Iowa. When Universoul arrived in Iowa it only took two weeks and he was already on the ones and twos blowing people away with his Texas style, playing tracks that no one had heard before and becoming one of the first DJs in the Mid West to introduce the funky breaks. During the first month he met up with a little raver kid named Sid Wilson(DJ Starscream,#0 DJ for Slipknot). One of the coolest people he had met in Iowa so far. Sid told Universoul that he and his friends were doing a little gig and asked if he would like to come out and spin. Universoul agreed. When he showed up that night he met a bunch of other really cool people. Two of which were Pat Williams(Phase Two)and Dave Jones(DJ Davey Jones). Soon after that encounter the four formed the infamous SOUND PROOF COALITION or SPC and the rest is history. Universoul and the rest of the coalition conquered the mid-west. Playing places like Chicago, Omaha, Kansas City, and Minneapolis. The crew gained alot of recognition. Since those early years Universoul has come a long way. A couple of mentionables were the 2002 Winter Music Conference in Miami were he and Phase Two tore South Beach up opening for D-12(R.I.P. Proof)and Steve-O from Jack Ass. Also the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah with Davey Jones. Universoul got to play his music for athletes and people from all over the world. And they loved it! He has also been a back line tech for the Grammy Winning band Slipknot. He got to travel Europe and the US. Now we could go into great detail of all the places and all the "BIG NAME" DJs that Universoul has spun with and opened for. But we won't. There have been way too many to list. Don't worry he knows and they know and everyone that was there knows and that's all that counts. DJ Universoul currently has a residency in Ames, IA at Sips in campus town where he spins Wed. Fri. & Sat. Also first and at the top of the list still doing gigs with the Sound Proof Coalition as well as producing the phattest shit with Phase Two and Starscream. Be looking out and listening up for cd's from all these artists and a SPC compilation cd. To book any of the Sound Proof DJ's just leave a message to receive more contact info.
