About Me

"Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it...It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more." ----- Erica Jong
"To see the universal and all pervading Spirit of Truth face to face, one must be able to love the meanest of creation as oneself. And one who aspires after that cannot afford to keep out of any field of life. That is why my devotion to the Truth has drawn me into the field of politics; and I can say without the slightesthesitation, and yet in all humility, that those who say that religion has nothing to do with politics do not know what religion means." ----Mahatma Ghandi
Having come before God as nothing and being received by him into his Kingdom through grace, the Christian should know that he has been made righteous (justified) so that he can join God in the fight for justice. Therefore, whoever fights for the poor, fights for God; whoever risks his life for the helpless and unwanted, risks his life for God. God is active now in the lives of those men who feel an absolute identification with all who suffer because there is no justice in the land. - James Cone

You're in touch with the world, and you have a very
strong opinion on things like politics and war.
Even if you do end up changing your image in
the future, most of us will still like you.

What band from the 80s are you?

Television:

Don't watch much TV. Do enjoy the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, Boston Legal, Firefly, Star Trek TNG, South Park, Family Guy, Will & Grace (it should be called Karen & Jack), and (it's so embarrassing) I really kinda enjoy Tony Danza's talk show. Hey, don't judge. It's on when I'm getting ready in the morning. I go to work later than most people.

Books:

I'm a complete and utter bibliophile (and I'm contagious...be careful!!!). I read anything and everything I can get my hands on. More often than not, I'm reading fantasy, theology, philosophy, poetry, and a complete trash-novel (to keep things light!). Some of my faves include:

What obsolete skill are you?
You are 'Latin'. Even among obsolete skills, the tongue of the ancient Romans is a real anachronism. With its profusion of different cases and conjugations, Latin is more than a language; it is a whole different way of thinking about things. You are very classy, meaning that you value the classics. You value old things, good things which have stood the test of time. You value things which have been proven worthy and valuable, even if no one else these days sees them that way. Your life is touched by a certain 'pietas', or piety; perhaps you are even a Stoic. Nonetheless, you have a certain fascination with the grotesque and the profane. Also, the modern world rejects you like a bad transplant. Your problem is that Latin has been obsolete for a long time.

Heroes:

Whoever invented the sound made by whiffle ball bats. My mom, sister and dad. Some of my friends. The kids in my youth group. The girls in my brownie troop. Anyone who manages to hold personal needs, a call to ministry, consuming compassion, gifts & graces, righteous anger, and a sinful nature in balance and tension without going insane. All the people throughout the ages who have endured persecution and charges of heresy in order to change the world: Galileo, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Dorothy Day, and so many more... Anyone who is willing to dodge the rocks that are sure to be thrown at people who answer the call to be prophetic.
