About Me

:: OFFICIAL WEBSITE :: Cliquez ici pour lire la bio en françaisTHE WONDERFUL WORLD OF GOO GOO BLOWN (le bonhomme) Once upon a time Close you eyes. Let yourself dream. Remember the dark forests of your childhood, where you used to get lost, trembling, conscious that you were drawing near to fearsome secrets. Remember the stealthy figure of a wolf through the trees, unless it was an ogre or a ghost in a mask or one of those pale night beasts that Lovecraft described so well. The universe of GOO GOO BLOWN (le bonhomme) is made of parallel worlds; often crepuscular and always full of contrasts, as if they were drawn by Hayao Miyazaki and directed by Tim Burton or Caro & Jeunet. An ambiguous planet, on the fringe, terribly fin de sicle despite the age, extremely romantic and wild. A mysterious and sensual theatre of cruelty. A special world, just like their music. Original. Googooblownian! Genesis of a saga Created almost ten years ago near Paris, GOO GOO BLOWN (le bonhomme) became sharper with the reorganizations, before it found its present composition: a pop band supported by a powerful string trio. Surely, all the coming and going, all the mixing, all the contributions explain why the band is so singular today and its style so personal. GGB(lb) is like a big melting pot where thousands of influences are fused together. The spontaneity and the energy of the first Placebo albums. The work on intensity of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The dreamlike wanderings of Sigur Ros. The sound explosions of Sonic Youth. The symphonic frenzy of The Divine Comedy. And, of course, the very personal vision of Matthieu, the eminence grise of this adventure: a kind of strange mutant symphony, full of electricity, a twisted fairytale colourfully.dark!Devilish FantaZiäh After the recording of a first EP that attracted attention then, ("Subaquachaotik Warriors"), after some time spent with the bands of the area (Jack The Ripper, Syd Matters, Los Chicros), and after many concerts supporting bands like Tue Loup, Venus, Autour de Lucie or Zita Swoon, GOO GOO BLOWN (le bonhomme) finally took on their great work: a first album, written in English but also in French (a novelty!). Once again, "Devilish FantaZiäh" evokes the complex universe of Matthieu and his companions. The titles of the songs are topping a picture that wavers between Jrme Bosh, Clovis Trouille and Gustave Moreau: Les Anges sont des fausses blondes (Angels are Peroxide Blondes), Le Cabinet des Fées (The Fairies' room), Fantaisie démonacale (Devilish FantaZiäh), Bloody Lovely Lady. A promising programme orchestrated by Ian Caple, who was also master craftsman of Tricky, Bashung, Stina Nordenstam and the Tindersticks. The least we can say is that this first album doesn't sound like anything else, and in the little world of the new bubbling French scene it appears like a perfect thingumajig, coming straight from a heroic tale. From a "Devilish FantaZiäh". A fascinating black diamond, the first nugget of an alchemist band, who can go on forever enchanting us with its sonic tales.
