societies popularity, dealing with highschool kids, starts in homes of those who believe: "hey, come drink with us! drink till you pass out. we'll make you popular." straight edge strictly rules against drugs and alcohol, it's a given. we've heard of straight edge kids that throw parties, straight edge drug dealers. some straight edge kids don't see how their drunk girlfriends are selling them out everytime they drink.
