The musical group BalkART is the meeting place for four musicians with parallel as well as individual careers. Dimos Vougioukas accordion, Stavros Kouskouridas clarinet, Kostas Meretakis percussion and Nikos Mermingas lute and oud bring together their tireless ever searching need for a new sound, thus creating a musical group that comprises individual rendition and masterful dexterity.With Greece as their starting point and Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Albania, Serbia and Skopje as their stops along the way, BalkART travels among the rich traditions and rhythms of Balkan music or better known as “ The Far East of Europe â€. The group’s melodies are comprised of a colorful mosaic of sounds from the Balkans, where the richness and variety of its culture are supported by the coming together people from various ethnicities.The group’s musical arrangements of the traditional sounds of Greece and the Balkans comprise an intrinsic and essentially new “balkan sound†without of course excluding from their program more modern compositions from Greece and its neighboring countries.
