CHROME PISTOLA

About Me

After the Towers fell, a lonely man sat in a lonely place, and decided to stop making lonely music for somebody else. He realized that these were new times, and these new times demanded a new type of man, and a new type of music. From a musty garage in Venice, Ca., he began to formulate a plan to change his life and his music. Being a producer and performer of Hip Hop and Dancehall Reggae for some years, he decided to fuse the bass and beats of those styles with the energy and sense of outrage of Punk Rock. Instead of sampling, he decided to play and or program all instruments (guitar, bass, keyboards, beats) and employ a vocal style that employed rap flows, dancehall cadences, and singing that sounds like gravel in a cement mixer. He decided to call himself Chrome Pistola, in a nod to his beloved Noir culture, and to signify the beauty and ugliness of everyday life in America. His first self released effort under this new moniker, appropriately titled “Belly of the Beast”, was the cause of some confusion for the Rock and Hip-Hop orthodoxy, and was either declared Hip Hop by the Rockers, or Rock by the Hip Hoppers. It walked such a razors edge, that some people still don’t know what to classify it.
Still in all, it managed to receive press and spins in college radio. Undeterred by the strange reaction of the press and general public, Chrome continued with his warped vision. His major stylistic victory came with his next release, Victimize Yourself, which defines Punk Hip Hop. The cover of the single and intro of the song caused such disgust from some quarters (even spurring an outraged record executive to hand write a letter to express his feelings of hatred) that the artist decided that he was on the right track. Some glowing reviews picked up on the fact that this was something new entirely. Headpress’s David Kerekes said “…I get the distinct impression that the collision of styles is indicative of a new style in the making”, while Smother.net noted that “It’s different and refreshingly unique, proving that just when music critics think they have everything figured out, something is going to tilt that axis on it’s ugly freak head”. That women and children were not confused or offended by his twisted offerings also gave him strength. While his health, social life, career (day job), and relationship began crumble around him, he re-upped and decided to finish an album. Now that album, “Information War”, is ready to be released to an unsuspecting public, and Chrome Pistola is ready to storm the stage.
