Gathering friends and performers from NYC punk-rock legends to Broadway stars, to best-selling novelists to star comedians, and rock legends - from Rock & Roll Hall-of-Famers to downtown luminaries and up and coming local singers. Hosted by Joe Hurley & acclaimed songwriter/singer Ed Rogers, the Irish Rock Revue kicks off at 9pm sharp with a parade of extraordinary singers taking the stage. 2009's Irish Rock Revue band features Music Director, Jon Spurney (MD of PASSING STRANGE), Mark Bosch (IAN HUNTER BAND), Sal Maida (CRACKER), Kenny Margolis (CRACKER), Megan Weeder (MELLENCAMP), downtown's Tish and Snooky, Christian Cassan (Passing Strange), Stan Harrison (RADIOHEAD) and more.Joe Hurley offers up an electrifying set at 8pm. Called "The best singer of vowels in rock since Shane MacGowan," by the Village Voice, Hurley has also released severally critically acclaimed CDs and is featured on the recent SONY release "Whiskey In A Jar: Essential Irish Drinking Songs and Singalongs" with his ballad "Amsterdam Mistress" alongside classics from the Clancy Brothers, The Pogues and The Dubliners. His performance of the traditional "Waxie's Dargle" is featured in the new Glenn McQuaid directed film "I Sell The Dead." Last year saw Hurley perform with Judy Collins and Jimmy Webb at the Public Theatre Gala Concert for Joe's Pub (Hurley's version of "Send In the Clowns" received a rave review in the New York Times). Also in 2008, Hurley sang with an eclectic mix of performers, including duets with cabaret star Maude Maggart, playwright Sam Shepard, La La Brooks (the Crystals) and alt-country's The Waco Brothers. "Joe Hurley is a brilliant songwriter and a truly charismatic performer" - Paddy Moloney of THE CHIEFTAINS.
Hurley's band will include TONY SHANAHAN (Patti Smith), JAMES MASTRO (Ian Hunter), DENNY McDERMOTT (Rosanne Cash), KENNY MARGOLIS (Cracker), KEITH CHRISTOPHER (Yayhoos, Georgia Satellites) and MEGAN WEEDER.
GUINNESS will be the "drink special" all night long with a cheaper pint than anywhere in town! DJ Gaz (East Village Radio) will be spinning Irish gems between sets. The Irish Rock Revue will also be toasting the 80th Birthday of the IRISH ECHO (America's biggest Irish weekly). The Echo will join longtime friends GIBSON and GUINNESS as sponsors of the Revue, so look for special promotions in their pages, and weekly updates on special guest performers.

Joe Hurley will also sit in and sing with the six-time Grammy-winning, Irish legends The Chieftains during their annual round of St. Patrick's Day shows in the tri-state area. He'll appear with the band on Thursday March 12th at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ.
