Los Angeles, CA - R&B and hip-hop artist Kevin Celik(formerly known as Young Truth) has joined forces with A&R Select, the premier A&R firm based in Los Angeles, CA. A&R Select is using its formidable industry resources to tout this talented upstart who’s out to shake up the status quo.
Kevin's music is a wicked merger of modern R&B and smooth hip-hop drenched in thick melodies and powered by crisp singing and reserved but strong hip-hop rhymes. “It’s Over,†“Work It Girl†and “Always With You†show off Kevin's singular fusion of the R&B and hip-hop branches of urban music. Lustrous, rich R&B music and vocals swell around rap grooves. These two genre cousins combine in a unique way in Young Truth’s work as this emcee weds marketability and accessibility with artistry and originality.
Doubts dissipate when the listener hears the truth through music. This 18-year-old phenom hit the industry almost five years ago, quickly adapting to the entertainment biz at the ripe age of twelve under the tutelage of Donwon of 40 Cal. Recordz and Dirty Paper Ent. Donwon kept hurling challenges at the youngster but the Truth kept up with the pace and was soon making moves on his own.
Starting with nothing more than a $10 microphone and a $40 recording program, Kevin kicked off his solo career from his own room, always honing his style and delivery, sharpening his already considerable skills.
Growing up hard the only child of a single mother under the roof of supportive grandparents, it was in his family unit – rather than out on the streets – that Kevin discovered hip-hop, thanks to his uncle. By 9, he was already dreaming the dream. By the age of 12, he was ready for the training he would undergo with Donwon, who became not only a mentor but a close friend.
Eager for studio time but lacking money, he began accumulating equipment by way of the generosity of others. He paid back that generosity by using the equipment to its fullest potential, disciplining himself with hard work and constant polishing of his craft. Finally, he landed a radio interview – and the buzz caught on like wildfire.
In 2007, Kevin joined the promotional staff of an all-ages club, Strawberry Sundays. There he found an opportunity with DJ Maverick of Interscope Records, who gave Young Truth’s CD a spin. The crowd immediately caught the vibe of “What Da Bizness†(produced by B. Magic), getting with the flow of the distinctive sounds and lyrics (and the one-of-a-kind verbal flow). It kicked off a musical relationship with DJ Maverick that opened another door for his budding career.
Through great connections and sharp self-management, Kevin became one of the most talked about underground stars in the industry. Though unsigned, Truth is still pushing toward his dreams with the support of friends, family and key people in the entertainment realm. The sound of his name – and his music – marks the beginning of the future.
