In August 2008, with the release of their first EP, “DEAD ON THE GRIDâ€, the New York City based band STATE OF EMERGENCE, hopes to show what rock music can and will be in the future. Tossing aside the notion that hard rock is only for angst ridden teens, “S.O.E.†takes a little from all genres and unites them into their brand of high energy, unforgettably melodic, and well structured tunes and brings them to the masses one fan at a time.
The five piece from the city that never sleeps, relies on their influences of the past but never forgets that today is a new age in the record industry. Even though their deepest combined passion lies in that of 70’s hard rock ( AC/DC, Black Sabbath), 80’s metal ( Guns N Roses, Motley Crue) and everything rocking thereafter ( Tool, Foo Fighters), the band is never afraid to delve into other forms of music that are not normally associated with harder music ( reggae, blues, funk, new wave, etc.). They combine this with their optimistically dark, real and raw lyrics to create something that is strangely familiar but new at the same time.
..On “DEAD ON THE GRIDâ€, STATE OF EMERGENCE takes their listeners on a trip through the hopeful yet skeptical minds of Gotham, who see the beautiful demons of the city they live in and the shadows of the world without. “ A PATHETIC..†is a high energy rocker that compares the revolutions of the past to the dulled down ones of today and “ SPANISH HARLEMâ€, with hints of reggae, tells how drinking with the devil in Hell’s Kitchen may find you waking up in the bed of two evil angels.. “THE WATCHER†and “SLEEPLESS CITY†bring back the “in your face†rock n roll we crave while “DAMN HARD NIGHTS†and “EPIPHANY†take it down a notch to capture that bittersweet loneliness of life.
Three of the members ( DANNY, MATTY GUNZ, AND THE KID) were in the NYC rock act Shotgun Wedding for 3 years. After a rollercoaster of success( sold out headlining spot at CBGB‘s and a shot with Epic records), they dismembered and decided to move on. MATTY was the drummer in the previous band but decided his heart was on the six string. DANNY called his former roommate, MATTIE V, remembering that “the dude could sing his ass off†and DEAN auditioned to drum shortly there after. The chemistry was instant and the band only practiced for a couple months before playing their first show at Arlene’s Grocery (NYC) in March 2008.
In August 2008, one of the original 3 members (THE KID) Decided to move on and finish his degree at a great college in upstate New York. That left SOE with a decision to make, and after posting hundreds of ads Greg (aka THE DUDE) got in contact with Danny and showed up to try out. By this point SOE knew they found the fifth and final member for the band to begin working even harder. THE DUDE, a native of Alaska, lived in Europe and California, but finally found his calling in New York as a member of SOE.
Since then life has moved at fast pace for boys of S.O.E.. In 7 months they have already grown a legion of fans with an old school/new school method of promoting, from passing out flyers on the street to using Myspace to spread the word. They believe if it sounds good and they pass that on, then the message will be heard. Their live performances only further proves their unwillingness to be reckoned with as one of the best new bands in New York City. The future is bright, so put on your shades, and get ready for STATE OF EMERGENCE...
