“I am not politically motivated or gang affiliated; I am Spiritually Blendedâ€: the words of Horace Chin, also known as ï“piritual. Born in the Allman Town area of Kingston Jamaica, Spiritual developed a love for music at an early age. He started singing in local talent contests, school concerts and his church choir at The St. Matthews Church when he was fifteen years old. He attended school at Allman Town Primary, Holy Trinity High School and Eastern Academy while in Jamaica, and then moving to the U.S. in 1980, Spiritual studied Poetry and Journalism at Oakton College in Chicago, Illinois.
Spiritual is a singer and a songwriter who has managed to create an arsenal of hits such as Third Covenant, Jah A Di Roots, The Truth, Remain Silent, Red Eye, My World and Marathon featuring Italian superstar Alborosie to name a few. In 2005 Spiritual's song “Stop the War†on Chi Town Posse’s debt album landed a number one hit (released by Tuff Gong Records). In 2006, he release a hit single “Running Away From Sin,†and in 2008, his hit "Marathon" (released by RJR Records) was featured on Alborosie’s “Forward Label.†Spiritual also recorded with Michael Rose, Bobby Digital and Sly & Robbie.
Over the years, Spiritual’s musical and dancing career has led him to perform at a number of prestigious events and movies. As a dancer, he performed at several shows in Jamaica from 1990-95 including the Reggae Cultural Festival. As a musician, he performed in Love Jones and Brown Sugar. He has performed with Charles Cameron and the Sunshine Band, the Stereo Band, Traxx, and Gizzae. On select dates he performed at the “Shabba Ranks World Unity Tourâ€, and at Jamaica's Reggae Sumfest and Sunsplash Festivals. Spiritual also performed on the WGN Morning Show, The Caribbean Festival in Washington Park, Reggae Festival in Wisconsin, Rhumbuzz Taste of Chicago and Jamaica’s The Rototom Sunsplash in 2008.
Due to Spiritual’s "Positive Reggae Message," he adapted the traditional Reggae elements (forceful drum and bass lines, mixture of roots reggae culture overlaid with Jazz, blues, and gospel), and remains committed to social commentary of the 21st century. His personal Note: “I am a servant of Jah for the children of the world one Aim the same destinyâ€, Spiritual believes his faith brought him here to this world to spread the message of Jah in his music. Spiritual represents the true meaning of “roots.†Motivated by his Spiritual faith and freedom of expression, he brings the authentic culture and warmth of Jamaican music to the whole world with love and honor. His main musical influences include: Marcus Garvey, Bob Marley, Joseph Hill and Winston Rodney also known as Burning Spear. Spiritual has now completed his debut album and is seeking to showcase his talent to the world beginning with a tour of Europe in summer of 2009.
