This myspace page is a tribute to one of the most innovative software companies of all time.
I grew up in a glorious time when personal computing was in it's infancy and software companies like Infocom helped pave the road for what was to come. If you've found yourself here, chances are you're already familiar with Infocom games. For those of you who aren't here's a brief description:
Infocom was a software company that created "interactive fiction" games. Interactive fiction is an entirely text based adventure game. There are no graphics and no sound... only text on a screen. As the main protagonist in the game, the player is thrown into a situation that requires intellect and imagination to complete. The games contained dozens of puzzles that had to be solved in order to win.
What set these games apart from the average computer game of the day was that the player used his or her imagination to paint the pictures of the story. I played my first Infocom game over 25 years ago and I can still vividly see the places where the game took place. If I was a better artist, I could sit down and draw them in great detail. Pretty amazing considering I never saw any pictures or graphics on the screen, only white text on a blue screen with a blinking cursor. I think the reason why I can still see those places all these years later is because they took place in my mind. I created them so they're a part of me.
