At 23 years of age, I've spent my whole life in Vancouver BC. I grew up on country, Elvis and Michael Jackson... And then when I was given a choice, started to listen to pretty much everything else, as well.
Although there are definitely causes I support and things I do feel strongly about, my own songs exist because i find it cathartic to write, whereas I play shows because I love performing and it lets me blow off steam. They've always been two very different outlets for me. That said though, having semi-recently split up with my band and having written a bunch of new songs for the first time in a while, I plan to make flying solo while I look for a new band, even once I find one, more of a focus.
While generally I'd rather play with other musicians so I can just focus on singing and performing because I'm not all that strong of a guitar player, there's something so refreshing and incredible about being so raw and honest (and the only one to shoulder the responsibility of any screw ups) while you're the only one on the stage. And, it's a pretty damn cool feeling to have had some people express that they connect with something that's come from such a purely personal place.
When people find out I play music, I often get asked the question, "So, you any good?" The line for me between cocky and self confident is not a fence I like to sit on - I don't know if I'm any good, I try not to wonder or care. If people are letting me know that they enjoy what they hear and keep encouraging me to get on stages, I'm gonna keep getting up on stages. End of story. And if they don't, well then I'll still write my songs to sing in my kitchen, and spend lots of time doing bad karaoke!
The most recent tracks are from a rough cut of my ep 'All The Juggling, None Of The Balls.' They're a bit pitchy and need some work, but are definitely an example of some the stuff I'll be playing at upcoming shows.
There's a track called, 'Make Up Your Mind' below the new ones that I recorded for my friends, The Bella Donnas. You can find their page in my favorites below. The three remaining tracks are an off the floor jam at a party, and then a demo type thing that was recorded when I was 15.
