"This whole rap thing is more than just a game to me. It's a legacy, a goal, a chance of a lifetime", King Mic explains. "So many people out here now a days think that it's just that easy. Everybody want's to be a rapper. But there is alot more to the rap game than you think". Born and rasied in the sunshine state of FLorida, King Mic is certainly starting to make a buzz in the streets and is becoming a house hold name. "I was born in a small town in Florida called Ocala, right around Gainsville." January 5th, 1991, the young rapper we know as King Mic was givin birth. Raised in Ocala for his first few years, the young Michael Harris would one day grow into the young phenom we know today. "Ocala yeah, man i was so young.. I only have a few memories you know childhood memories. I was so young. I moved out of Ocala when I was like 5. That's when we started moving around alot".
From there King Mic moved up the map into the city of Louisville, Kentucky. "I spent about 4 or 5 years in Lousiville. It was straight i had a lot of friends but we got into alot of trouble. After that we were on our way back to the homestate". Mic moved back down into florida into the city of Panama City Beach. "I lived with my cousins for a few weeks. Not to long after that my moms got a house for us to stay in. I was the only black kid in my school besides my brother. I stayed in that house for about one school year i think. Then it was on to the big city of Jacksonville, Florida. That is where the whole rap thing started".
King Mic packed up and moved to Duval county, Jacksonville, Florida. "I moved into military housing because my stepdad was in the military. I started in a new school, made new friends, you know how it is or whatever. I was like 14 by then". After getting used to the new town, King Mic got his very first taste of the rap game. "(laughing) Yeah it all started at my boys house. I had tried rappin before when i was a lil' younger, but I never really took it serious", King Mic explains. "It all started one day when my boys was tellin me they know how to freestyle and what not. I was kinda sceptical as they attempted to freestyle over songs. They asked me to try and thats where it all started. We was in there rapping over the voices in songs like "I need a soulja", or "On fire". After a while we got the idea that we could make our own rap group. Me and my boy D.millz was the only 2 out of the 3 that were serious about it. We started of as "Fatal"(that was him) and "Severe" (that was me).
King Mic then began writing music and songs with the young rapper now known as D.millz. "We had a whole bunch of music written but we were just begining and had no idea where to record. We found out that we lived right around a producer named Magnetik. We went to him with our idea about the music and he gave us studio time". King Mic recorded his first 2 songs "Fatal N Severe" and "Crunkin up". "I aint going to lie to you. Our first couple of songs were not all that, but nobody starts at the top right?". King Mic made copys of the 2 singles and they were handed out around the neiborhood. "We gave the cds to all of our friends to get their opinion. Most everybody like them".
From there King Mic realized that you can't get big from makin songs off of the industries beats. "We needed beats but we didnt know what to do. The producer we knew had already given us 2 beats and 2 recording sessions for free. We couldnt ask for more so I asked him how can i learn to make beats that we can use". The young rapper was given his very first beat program, "Fl Studio". "My first beats were the worst!", King Mic explains. "It took me a good while before I learned how to use the program". Not long after, the young King Mic was featured in his first mixtape titled "Me and My Gang Vol. 1". "The mixtape had all my niggas on it. We got that mixtape spread all over the area and everybody loved it. It was history from then on".
3 years later at the young age of 17, King Mic has made a name for himself as one of the best Rappers/Producers in Duval county. He has now collaborated with a numorous amount of local artist in the Duval area. "Everybody want's to get on the track with me now. I feel as though I'm on another level. It's funny how it all statred out and now I got females wanting to fly me out to cali to perform and I get messages over Myspace about doing shows at birthday parties. I feel like the rap game needs to get ready for me. I'm going to go hard no matter if its rapping or producing. I'm just waiting until I get discovered by somebody big". King Mic continues to spread as his name and music is heard around the streets of Jacksonville. A young hard working MC in the making. King Mic is destined to someday take the rap game by storm!
