About Me

A large, historic city neighborhood close to Downtown, Lawrenceville is becoming known for its locally-grown businesses, friendly community feel, and creative vibe.
The basics: We’re a city neighborhood located less than three miles from Downtown Pittsburgh and right next door to the Strip District and Bloomfield (technically, we're three neighborhoods: the 6th, 9th, and 10th wards, but it's all Lawrenceville to us). We’re big—nearly 11,000 people call our 2.5 square miles home. We’ve got deep roots: named after an 1812 war hero, Lawrenceville is one of Pittsburgh's oldest neighborhoods--Stephen Foster’s father charted out the street plans in 1814. And we're on on the rise with affordable properties, first-rate shopping and restaurants, and the new Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to open next year.
In October 2007, a journalist from the New York Times visited Lawrenceville, fell in love with its vibe, and featured Butler Street as a "go-to destination." The article also features many businesses in the 16:62 Design Zone, a niche marketing strategy created by the Lawrenceville Corporation (LC) in 2000 to grow the business district. Read the article here .
The 16:62 Design Zone, Pittsburgh’s arts and interior design district, spans from the 16th Street Bridge in the Strip District to the 62nd Street Bridge in Lawrenceville. Housed in restored turn-of-the-century storefronts or repurposed industrial buildings, the 70+ businesses of the Design Zone feature all things design, including home furnishings, art, and handcrafted products from Pittsburgh-area artisans. Many businesses also include working studios, offering visitors the chance to see artists in action. To stay up to date on Design Zone news and events, sign up to receive the bi-weekly e-newsletter at www.1662designzone.com , where you can also request a free guidebook with a map of the district.
To learn more about the entire neighborhood, or if you're thinking about relocating to Lawrenceville, visit www.lawrenceville-pgh.com . And while you're at it, sign up for the monthly e-newsletter Lawrenceville Happenings , which announces the latest news, events, and ways to get involved. The LC also works closely with Lawrenceville United (LU), a community organization dedicated to public safety and resident concerns. If you live in Lawrenceville, you definitely want to join LU. It's free, and they'll always have your back. Sign up to be a member at their website: www.lawrencevilleunited.org . They have a great Public Safety newsletter, too.
So many websites, so many newsletters! If you're a Lawrencevillian, you understand why. They're each packed with exciting and important information from a close-knit community dedicated to improving the quality of life for its people. We love it here, and we hope you do too. So stick around, and make yourself at home.
