About Me

According To Alan work hard when it comes to writing and performing their own unique brand of rock music. Consisting of a solid rhythm section with Andrew Robinson on the drums and frontman Jonathan Egan playing the bass, there also exists soaring melodies and intricate harmonies courtesy of Jamie Barnes and Robert Bruni who share the responsibility of lead guitar in a tasteful manner.
The 'man on the bongos' grew up listening to fast paced punk rock such as Green Day and Sum 41 and is no stranger to high tempo beats. However, it is his subtle use of jazz and funk styles that give him the technical prowess to surpass most. The rock on which the main tunes sit is that of Egans dynamic bass lines.
The two work in tandem to provide a firm base for not only the guitars, but also the frontman's instantly recognisable vocals. He has a sense of urgency in his voice that entices you to listen on to the meaninful lyrics about love, sex, respect and drug use to name a few themes.
From a musical perspective, the feature of dual lead guitars has the biggest effect on the bands genre spanning sound.Their conflicting playing styles mean that one complements the other. Where Barnes, whos is a fan of Brian May's quirky lead work, prefers to work his leads out in an almost mathematical manner and tends to veer towards melodic playing, Bruni, who favors Tim Sult and Jimi Hendrix, is equally comfortable improvising on the fly. The two really come together where harmonies are concerned, spawning from a joint inspiration from the likes of Queen, Iron Maiden and Avenged Sevenfold.
In the writing process, the band are always asking themselves, 'is it catchy?' or 'Is this just an album filler?' in an effort to add some substance to their abbundant style. The best part about According To Alan is that they do not stick to one particular genre. This does complicate things in matters of what their fans will like and in these days of strict stero-typing, different songs are like marmite. . . You either love 'em or hate 'em.
