Recording at 8 Houses Down is a great experience. Laid back, yet very productive. With excellent gear and great engineering, comfortable and relaxed environment. The centerpiece of our recording side is our Sony MXP-3056 console loaded with all the analog goodies and many outboard processors. We record with a digital back-end with tons of processing and editing power and unlimited recording time.
While certainly not exclusive primarily cater to punk, rock, hardcore, indie, and all of the associated sub and alt-genres. Our philosophy is to do one thing and do it very well. We’ve been running full time for over 10 years with thousands of releases.
We welcome outside producers or can offer up our producing input when requested.
Awesome tuned acoustic space for recording and spacious control room with ample room for artist and guests to work in comfort.
Mastering:
8 Houses Down Mastering is a dedicated mastering suite designed for polishing up and producing professional records, vinyl, and DVDs. Our goal is to squeeze every last bit of potential out of your project to help you create a single piece of art that you can truly be proud of. Audio sweetening, loudness maximization, adding hidden tracks, sample insertion, fades, and quality control are just a few of the features our mastering can do to give your release a professional finish.
Studios:
The studios are located just outside of downtown Denver across the street from Sonny Lawson park where Jack Kerouak stayed andbriefly wrote about in “On The Road.†The floors and walls are admittedly a bit “raw,†but we write that off to the punk character of the place. Besides, we have a full bar, dance floor, and stage in our giant lounge with TV’s, stereo, X-Box, DVD’s, and all the regular kitchen amenities.Downtown Denver, grocery stores, $5 pizzas, and liquor stores are all within a few blocks and there are many quality take-out and delivery options in the area.The space is very comfortable, and at 4200 sq. feet there’s ample elbow room to spread out and there’s plenty of off-street parking.

In punk-rock years, 8 Houses Down is like a dinosaur. The recording studio, headed by engineers Jeff Merkel and Matt Van Leuvan, has been a staple in the underground scene for over a decade. Its client list reads like the index to a scenester yearbook, with such alumni as Planes Mistaken for Stars, Pinhead Circus, the Gamits and a long, long list of others. Just about every notable punk/hardcore band that has ever called the Mile High City home has banged out a couple of tracks at the 8 Houses studio at one time or another. With a recent move from its longtime digs in Five Points to a shiny new space on Walnut Street, 8 Houses shows no signs of going extinct anytime in the near future.
