Born 1956. Early mentors included Tommy Turrentine, Dizzy Reece, Manny Album. M. Mus. Eastman School of Music; Ph.D. New York University. Tenured Professor at Minnesota State University (music department for nine years. Retired 2007.) Also taught Jazz Improvisation at the Eastman School of Music and Music Theory at New York University. Visiting Professor of Media Studies at Utsunomiya University, Japan. Academic papers presented at Harvard University and Columbia University. Masterclases presented in composition at the Bill Evans Academy, Paris. Published by MIT Press, Open Space Magazine. Played as a jazz soloist with: Gene Bertoncini, Ronnie Cuber, Phil Woods, Richard “Groove” Holmes. Member of brass section on David Byrne and the Talking Heads Rei Momo World Tour. Appeared on the Late Night Show with Johnny Carson, National Television of Chile. Featured as a jazz soloist on NHK (Japan) Television jazz documentary. Performed with Frank Foster, Harvey Philips, Rich Matttason, Jimmy Guiffre, Celia Cruz, Claudio Roditi, Marion McPartland, James Moody, Buddy DeFranco. Ingrid Jensen. Freelance Trumpet player NYC: 1983-2000. Living in Paris: 2003-present. Tokyo/Utsunomiya: 2005-present. Led jazz trios in Paris at 7 Lezards, Le Franc Pinot jazz clubs. Performed in Paris at Duc de Lombard, Hotel Luticia as a jazz soloist. Film scores for Indie films NYC. Film music consultant for “Fragrance Oscar Awards” NYC.
