Music has been around for thousands of years… and throughout these millennia, every note that the human mind can conceive has damn near been created.
In this year of 2008, musicians are finding it increasingly difficult to be original. In every style you have had your pioneers and trailblazers, your torchbearers for the next generation, the followers, and of course there are always those who refuse to let a movement die and attempt to breathe new life into the past.
In this modern day of sight and sound, one band has found their way past the potholes of mediocrity and found that holy grail of originality – Echofist.
A band can best be summed up by the parts of the individuals, and the members of Echofist bring more to the table than just the ability to play their instruments. The phrase “been there, done that, got the t-shirt†could not be more applicable. Each player has years of experience in a variety of backgrounds throughout many aspects of the music industry, and more than that they have found the center of their souls.
What sets Echofist so drastically apart from the masses is the menagerie of influences that Joeix Deadboix, Roy Limon, Jon Parr, Gor Hudson, and Carter Cox each throw into the cauldron of ideas. From hard-core death and Progressive metal, to the harmony and melodies of pop, adding in the suave styles of the old standards, to the comforts of classical and jazz – Echofist not only pulls from these inspirations, but masterfully blends them with the macabre and illumination of the sinful mind.
The band is currently working on their debut album “Parallel Visionsâ€, and is periodically performing their set of progressive metal at venues around the southwestern United States. If you have the chance to see Echofist do it – you will walk away with a new understanding of just what originality means…
