About Me

I'm Cory. I was born in Orange County, raised in the Inland Empire, and now I live out in Hawaii (until May, that is). I'm a student at the University of Hawaii and I'm a writer for DaKine magazine. I have two dogs, two clownfish, and an amazing ability to cook the most tremendous lemon bars you've ever tasted. I have an affinity for socio-political literature and studying literary theory. In my spare time I'm glued to to the television, writing, baking, reading, sleeping, or if I get really bored, I find that I can waste an hour or two perusing the endless shelves of WalMart. I'm graduating in May and then I'm off the island and out to Florida for grad school at the University of South Florida (Tampa) to study journalism and media studies. I like to make people laugh and smile, but if provoked, I have no problem speaking my mind if I know it's the truth. Other than that, I'm a college student stuck on an island and living my dreams. My Interests

When I get a chance to rest, I seize the opportunity and take a nap. It's a shame that I never took nap-time too seriously during preschool, because right about now I'm wishing universities had nap time too. Besides napping, I really enjoy baking. I'm a lemon bar expert and can whip up an amazing batch of whatever cookies you like. I like going to the beach after class and reading. Traveling is another vice of mine. But most of all, I enjoy doing spontaneous things with friends and family

Music:

Though I'm an avid A-Teens fan, my taste for music is pretty eclectic. I'm not the typical gay guy that's obsessed with Madonna...oh no...I'm a fan of Tupac, Hannah Montana, Sean Paul, Oldies but Goodies, and everything else in between.

Movies:

Hmm, I like the classics like Scarface, The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, and John Wayne movies. Books:

I'm a huge fan of books that delve into the theoretical framework of queer literature and film. Geeky...I know. Otherwise I really like A Million Little Pieces, HARRY POTTER, Like Water For Chocolate, Biko, On Rue Tatin, The Handmaid's Tale, Orlando, and I'm a huge fan of the literary classics as well as beat generation novels.

Heroes:

I can't say that I truly idolize any celebrity enough to call them my hero, but I'm a pretty keen fan of Anderson Cooper. I've always considered my family as my heroes. Parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins...they're all the heroism I need :)
