The first two shorts, “The Jizz Party†and “Delivering Coco,†feature the continuing exploits of characters Evie and Coco, played by Jack Plotnick (Gods and Monsters, Meet the Fockers) and Clinton Leupp (Miss Coco Peru of TRICK) in deliciously camp drag.
In “Delivering Coco,†comedian Scott Thompson (Kids in the Hall, Larry Sanders), joins the cast as Coco’s mother, Ann. When Evie learns that Ann is suffering from liver failure and wants half of Coco’s liver, she decides she wants it too. Evie doesn’t need a new liver yet, but she is a heavy drinker, and, according to Evie, “one this clean almost never comes on the market.†It’s a battle for Coco’s liver, and as usual Coco suffers the most.
The original Girls Will Be Girls feature premiered at The Sundance Film Festival and received numerous honors around the world including four 2003 OUTfest Grand Jury Awards and three US Comedy Arts Festival Awards. The DVD is available in The US, Canada, France, Japan, the U.K, and Australia and has garnered a cult-like following of fans internationally.
“Ever since we did the feature film, fans have been clamoring for a TV series. But even with the film, we’ve never been able to get one off the ground because television is a cautious and conservative business,†said Richard Day, Writer/Director of Girls Will Be Girls. “These webisodes are our way of reaching our audience directly. No one can tell any of us we can’t do certain material so we’re free to be as outrageous as we like,†he said. Day is best known for his Emmy nominated work on the hit TV shows “The Larry Sanders Show,†“Mad About You,†and “Arrested Development.â€
The cast and crew of Girls Will Be Girls are contributing their time and resources to the webisodes in the hopes that this will lead to a sequel feature film, television series or other commercial project. Currently, they plan on releasing new shorts each month.
Miss Coco Peru offered this message to her audience; “I am so very excited to be a part of the Girls Will Be Girls experience online! As we move forward in our simple and humble quest to take over the world, I do hope that as you watch these new shorts, you’ll get a little laugh, or in the very least….get a little nauseous.â€
