Mule Satellite recordings invites you to get your bellybutton sandy with the worlds first oriental go-go rock hiphopshaking collection of beat instrumentals for burlesque and bellydancers, general groovers and people in tight corduroy suits wherever they may be (if they’re still around that is….),celebrating the days when men with velvet trousers and unpleasantly wide lapels picked up their guitars and twanged their way across a thousand dance floors in cabarets from Los Angeles to Damascus.
This album takes the sound and the spirit of those days and lovingly takes a guitar and a set of screwdrivers to some modern classics, mixed with a couple of old favourites and some original compositions.
The musicians and dancers involved in this project were all well qualified for the task at hand, having worked with Natacha Atlas, Hakim, Trans-Global Underground, Page and Plant (organist Alex Kasiek may be the only person ever to get a Heavy Metal Grammy award by playing oriental keyboards for them), plus all spending probably more time than is good for anyone in bellydancing clubs all over Europe and Egypt.
