Height: 6' 7" Weight: 300 lbs Hair: None Eyes: Black-RedWhen you first meet the Manhunter you may not even realise that its him. He could be your taxi driver, the nun you passed on the street or even your boss. There may be little giveaways that the most observant spectator could guess (i.e. Batman), such as unconscious use of Martian body language. However when you encounter him in his day-to-day Martian form you will recognise him instantly. He stands a head taller than most of the other Leaguers, his brow extends above his face and his skin is a vibrant green. He is a silent and imposing figure who exudes an aura of mystery. He voice is that of red sand blowing across a desolate Martian vista, utterly alien, yet strangely comforting. Nobody truly knows how old J'onn J'onzz is or how long into the past Dr Erdel's machine reached to drag him to our world. These and many other facts about him are his knowledge alone and few dare ask him. For much of his time on Earth J'onn has been a mystery to many - even himself. Despite his reserved and silent nature the Manhunter cares deeply for his adopted world and would lay his life down in an instance for it. In his time the Manhunter has been a founding member of almost every incarnation of the League, he headed for a time the JLI's youth training division (the so called JL Task Force) and was the senior member active when Professor Ivo's androids succeeded in killing several League members. He is close to the more vulnerable and younger members of the League (such as Gypsy, Ice and Kyle) and he only really relaxes in very close company (such as L-ron, Oberon, Max, Beetle, Fire, etc.). J'onn is a brilliant leader and tactician but normally defers to Superman in leadership. However in the southern hemisphere where J'onn spends most of his time his recognition factor is even higher that the Kryptonian. He also maintains a number of cover identities around the world so that he might study humanity further. The Manhunter was framed for murder by his brother and was hunted by the DEO and the JLA. He managed to clear his name, but not before the DEO revealed several of his different identities. However they experienced a backlash when the friends of those identities rallied behind him. More recently the Manhunter foiled a plan to disrupt a marriage between the warring clans of Saturnians.Abilities: Advanced physical and shapeshifting abilities resulting from complete command of his anatomy, grants him superstrength, speed, density control and invisibility. Also a powerful telepath with knowledge of many advanced Martian techniques. Can project an energy beam from his eyes called Martian Vision. The bond between mind and body is so strong for a Martian that their racial fear of fire can prove fatal beyond any normal physical injury associate with it. Tactics: J'onn is one of the most versatile of the Leaguers and will often wrong foot his foes by suddenly switching tactics. He will often scout ahead or approach a situation invisible and intangible. He will remain in that state until his enemies are distracted or his allies arrive. Then he will strike decisively, either shutting down the targets mind with a telepathic attack or by using a combination of his strength and Martian-Vision. J'onn will rarely use his telepathy to invade the minds of others and will normally only do so with their permission or as a last resort. In battle J'onn's most important role is acting as a telepathic communication centre for the other Leaguers. Relationships/Connections: J'onn was a founding member of the original Justice League and has been a member of every generation of the team since. As such he is known and respected by most former Leaguers. Of those on the current team he is closest to the inner core of elder heroes. His relationship with Batman is complex, J'onn has seen and shared the loss of his own family and recognises the demons that drive the Batman, yet he maintains his silence out of respect for his teammate. Reciprocally he is the one hero that Batman will defer to over professional matters. The J'onn has always taken a special interest in the younger heroes he works with and keeps an eye on Green Lantern, constantly pushing him to realise his full potential. Allies: Gypsy (Cindy Reynolds? - a young heroine who reminds J'onn of his own daughter), Jemm (a Saturnian hero, one of a race of beings created from clones of Martians). Enemies: Malefic (his brother and engineer of the Hronmeer's Curse plague), Kanto (Darkseid's personal assassin, he and J'onn clashed during the old days on Mars), The Swarm (an alien armada that J'onn will face in the centuries to come).In his debut story, J'onn J'onzz is accidentally teleported to Earth by a human scientist, Dr. Erdel, who immediately has a heart attack and dies, leaving the Martian stranded and unable to return. He is able to use his powers to fit in, adopting a human-like appearance and calling himself "John Jones". He joins the police force, secretly using his alien powers to help the inhabitants of his new planet. After he had given up his John Jones persona he became Marco Xavier in order to infiltrate the international crime cartel known as VULTURE. During the superhero revival that became known as the Silver Age of Comic Books, the Manhunter from Mars adopted a more characteristically superheroic modus operandi, openly fighting crime in a green-skinned form.Powers and abilities The Martian Manhunter has been described as "the Swiss Army knife of superheroes." He possesses many similar powers to those of Superman -- super-human strength, invulnerability, flight, and martian vision -- at levels close to those of Superman himself. In various altercations with Superman, the Martian Manhunter is usually able to stun the Man of Steel, but ultimately loses the fight. He has fought Captain Marvel to a standstill using nothing more than his strength. Although he does not possess super speed in the sense that he can move his arms and legs at high velocities, he can fly much faster than the speed of sound and his mind can process what he is seeing at that speed. He is also able to shapeshift (adopting human form, elongating his limbs, growing to immense size, and so on), turn invisible (in most Silver Age sources none of his other powers work while he is invisible), and alter his density (increasing it to become tougher and stronger, decreasing it to become incorporeal and thus able to pass through solid objects). In addition to his vast physical powers, J'onn is also a very powerful telepath, often acting as a "switchboard" for other JLAers in order to coordinate the team's actions. His defeat of Despero in JLI revealed that he is able to use his telepathy to completely submerge another being's mind in a permanent "wish-fulfillment" scenario, but that this is such a strain that he was only able to do it once — in Martian culture, this was a last gift to the dying from their loved ones. He also possesses 9 different senses, though these are ill-defined and oft forgotten. For most of his existence, J'onn was shown to have a deep-seated pyrophobia. It was revealed, during the Trial By Fire storyline (JLA nos. 84-89), that this fear was instilled on a genetic level by the Guardians of the Universe 20,000 years ago, when they split the original "Burning" Martians into the Green Martians and White Martians. The Guardians instilled this fear because the psychic suffering of others, combined with the physical conditions of an inferno, allow the barbaric, ruthless, and brilliant "Burning" Martians to asexually reproduce. As a species the Burning Martians existed only "to cause suffering and burn and breed," but if they were too afraid to go near fire, they could not reproduce. At the end of the Trial by Fire arc, J'onn told Superman of the changes he'd gone through. "The flame and I are again bound, body and soul... but not as before... I can withstand simple fire without pain. Candle flame, or a burning forest, it matters not unless -- they are flames of psychic significance. Flames of suffering, as The Burning created... flames of passion, as an arsonist might create... flames of love. Those... those most of all I cannot bear."
